New cat to pass emmisions, but some problems!

the owner of the SA that my best friend is buying from replaced the cat to pass emmisions a couple days ago, now the car runs super rich, really hot, and it smokes. do u guys think it could be the new cat? what do u guys think it could be?

The cat should not affect all that, unless the previous cat was real messed up. I'd just re-adjust the air/fuel screw and timing (can cause engine to run very hot if set wrong). What color is the smoke?

i JUST found out that SA's don't have catalytic converters. it has a heat exchanger, that ACTS like a cat. i think the owner of the SA took it to a non-rotory shop, and they probably welded on a cat which made it run funny. fortunately, i refered the owner to MAZDATRIX in signal hill. WOOSH! any other info? please bring em' on in...

pick another exhaust from the junkyard. there's a 79 at upick upull in sunvalley. tuxford/5 fwy. lot cheaper too. well **** it, install a headers. but save whatever you have now for next smog test.

lol cool, thanks man, (hey how's your buddy that had the RX3? is he cool?)

i'm relieved that the seller is taking car of the car, even though she's selling it. it was supposed to be picked up today, but she postponed it till she took care of the problem.

-does a '79 exhaust fit onto a '80?

Ahh... I failed to notice that you have an SA. On the topic of emissions, pre-80 cars don't need to pass smog, right? Maybe this depends on state/country...?
