85 GS auto top speed problem

Hey, I cant seem to get my 7 to go past 80mph!! LOL I know its funny and The only reason I have the auto is cuz I bought it off the original lady ower with 74000 miles on it. So I can lice with the auto for now. Could this be caused by clogged cats? Or could it be somewhere in the tranny? Ive had other 7's with 5 speed and had no problems hitting 100 so I know somethings not right.

I'm not an expert by any means...

Though there are a lot a factors involved with top speed, one of the most important factors is horsepower, or lack of it.

In your case, I'd probably look at the fuel filter or pump(lack of fuel) and engine compression (or lack of)...

Good luck in your quest to turn a 20 year old car, with 20 year old safety features, into an illegally speeding hunk of metal...

Heheheheh... it's the father in me!

This may sound stupid but you do have overdrive turned on right? Its also not from clogged cats. My 85 GS origionally had an auto, and it had a clogged main cat. I had problems getting that thing over 35.

A lady owner and it has 74k miles? Is this your "wild" lady who likes the redline buzzer noise, or one who likes to drive the speed limit? If you picked the second situation, most likely your engine has much carbon buildup inside it... My first FB was owned by an old lady and its full potential was hidden because of all the carbon gunk that had built up. Best way to clear that **** out is add MMO to your gas and bring her to redline daily (or hourly, or as often as you please)

Hope this helps!
