I bought this engine about 4 months ago and im not sure how many more months it sat but we put it in and it sounded like it had good compression but its only reading 60lbs tops. Any sugestions guys?

 

do the seafoam treatment in hopes of being a simple stuck seal.

Also, maybe the exhaust is over ported

 

also if the seals are dry or engine is flooded the compression will be low as well

 

How was the compression read? Was the engine hot or cold?

I am with the above. If it bounces from 60ish to 100ish, it could be a stuck seal...

 

quite possible it was built reusing all internal seals and springs, when they should have all been replaced with new. i did this the first time i built the 13b. cold starts were fine but hot starts was a real bitch. went with all new internals the 2nd time.

 

I bought the motor as a plug and play engine from 19-red-79 and its got about 1000 miles on it so it ran fine before.... its just sat for a little bit.

 

where did it sit - meaning, what environment/climate?

 

back in the day i learned this the hard way as well.

 

it sat in a garage with newpaper in all ports. We got it to run! But its extremely hard to start or even restart when warmed up even. And it doesnt seem to wanna run right unless the timing is advanced...... any bridgport secrets i dont know about?

 

First I would do a full seafoam procedure in hope it is a simple stuck seal or 2. Just a cheap $10 gamble..........

 

my bridgeport ran fine with stock timing. there's another problem somewhere. are you sure the pulley is on right?

i would seafoam or spray a ton of carb cleaner into it for starters. that type of starting issue sounds like a corner seal issue. but if it's 60psi tops on all faces then it's gotta come apart.

 

Well that seafoam works so good I didnt even have to open the can! lol Before I even put it in the engine I tried starting it up and she fired all on her own for the first time. Its still hard starting but it seems to be getting better.
So i just tried seafoaming afterwards to see if it would help any...... i put about 1/4 cup in each rotor and turned it over manually a few times and let her sit overnight like that. It seems to be helping also. Is there a more efficient way of using it or is this the best/easiest way?
And the engines only got about 1000-1500 miles on it from what I'm told. I would believe it too cause the inside of the chambers look nice clean and chatter free and the enitre engine is so clean and brand new looking.
Once you get this thing running and warmed up it pulls HARD and sounds amazing and doesn't miss a beat....... its just getting it started.
