New to Boards...'79 RX7 Limited...Restoration Begins :)

Hi,

In '79 I bought my RX7. I was in my early 20's and this was my first big purchase and first new car. I got to see it arrive on the transport, and i got to remove the blue plastic that was over the door panals myself....and spent a couple days hanging out at the dealership watching it striped and detailed for me.

The dealership had won my car (to sell)in a dealership sales event...so they made kind of a big deal out of it. They stripped it in gold rather then the red and silver...and added my name in pin-striping on the fender panals by the tail lights.

Today it has 109K miles on it and in bad need of some restoration. I have made two attempts so far and both have ended with disaster. It has been sitting quite awhile now, so even though much mechanically was tip-top, a lot will have to be redone.

After the last disaster my heart just wasn't into making a 3rd attempt. I recently picked up another 79 RX7 running, no rust or dents. I once again can't wait to get started!

I'm looking forward to getting advice from you all .. and keeping you updated on my progress!

Let the project begin

KC (Karen)

The newer purchased RX is to support my Limited's restoration.

No it wasnt wrecked, just left in the wrong hands for painting. I went with a recommendation.

The guy painting it had a breakdown while working on my car. He broke my moon roof and windshield, lost my hard top, painted it Watermelon pink instead of black ... mounted door mouldings on backwards, painted over the headlights, left swollen patches of bondo when working on dings...and..etc etc....stuff that couldn't be believed.

So instead of being ready to go I was back near square one with the body.

Wow! I have never heard of a person crazy enough to just totally disrespect his job in that serious of a way. Why don't you sew him or something? That is unbelievable. It just seems like you should get some money or something after all of that happened. I'm sorry man. I've had my car since 1980, and if someone did something like that to it, he would have a crowbar shaped dent in the side of his head to fix!

I took it personally. Sentimental and emotional attachment . I've had lots of cars since and never it bothered me to see any of them go. I could never part with my Rx however. I'll keep spending money on it and playing with it forever. I'm glad to be in a position to be able to get it restored right this time..looking forward to it.

WOW, that has to be the worst what-the-heck-happened story I've ever heard.
At the very least I'd be expecting some cash to have the work done elsewhere.
Just... wow. I not sure what I'd have done in that situation, but it wouldn't have been rational, or pretty.
