New 7 Owner

Hey just thought I would post up and say hello to all you on this site.

I just got my first RX7, which is a 1982. Right now there isn't an engine because we want to put a different engine then the original one in there.

My husband owns a 87 Turbo II but now its time for my car

Here is a pic of her just to get an idea of what I am talking about. Oh yeah we knew the previous owners who named her "Akina" which means Spring Flower, so we decided to keep it.

Thanks----Michelle

LOL I would love to but since I need some help with the engine, kind of need him. I did help him drop a new T2 engine into his when we bought it so I know some. Learning as I go and off his because we are thinking of putting a T2 engine in her.

Thanks I do like the black. It was actually between this one and a 2nd gen n/a vert but it was out of town.
The owners were getting rid of this one due to a baby on the way. It has a few things on it now like lowering springs, light weight Panasport wheels, stainless steel brakelines, and the GSL-SE rear end (disc brakes and LSD)
Right now the dash in it is red, which I will eventually change to black, and then the engine, it already has a T2 tranny in it.
I am really excited about it and the fact that its black just is icing on the cake for me

Extremely gorgeous car. My '84 is going to go black someday, hopefully sooner than later, but my main concern is rebuilding the 12a in my '83 with a street port and putting it in my '84 first. I say a TII engine in it if it already has a TII tranny, that would make for a fast car. Then your husband will want to trade you, as all us first gen owners know, the FB is the greatest! haha Just kidding.

HAHA nah he loves his T2, but I am thinking of a different engine set up now. I am thinking Ford 302 and the kit from Grannys Speed shop. I am one that likes power I might be squeeling like a lil girl first driving it cause of the RWD but damn its going to be fun

haha A piston engine is far from a way to get very much support on here, but good luck on it (and there are some places on this site that will help out a lot more than the first gen section.) Still much love for your car, and good I hope its as much fun as both of mine have been.

Well we still support the rotory engine, we also have a 87 Turbo II that is still a rotory. Also I have seen many cars on here with v8's in them. Just I guess having fun with this one. Thanks for the advice

I wasn't trying to be a bastard if I came off that way at all, just seen a lot of people get put down for the swap. Though I'd never do it myself, I can obviously see the allure.

I just keep looking at that car though, and wow. Just makes me want mine black that much more. How much did you pay for that? Oh yeah, and I want more pics of it!

Oh no no bastardness about it I only paid 600 bucks for it, and it came with all the things listed above. We just cleaned it up the other day so I have to get new pictures of it
Thanks I keep lookin at her too, I am a huge fan of black and once we waxed her she came out pretty much flawless. There is no rust that we can find anywhere and there is no carpet in it so you can pretty much see all. Just a few paint chips on the front, but other then that I can't even find one dent on her I am really excited about her. Thanks for the compliments and I will post new pics soon.

No interior eh? My '83 has that same problem. My '84 has near mint interior though, which shocked the hell out of me since out of the two, it has rust and the front bumper is seperating from the car a bit. Oh well, I'll get all that fixed when it comes time to paint as well.

Yeah the people who had the car before us were preparing it for racing so everything was gone, well I still have the dash, steering column and wheel, and the two seats. It really wasn't a bad deal since the rims alone are worth 1200 bucks

I would consider it a steal with the GSL-SE suspension + rims + it being in such a great condition.

Never been a big fan of the second gens, and verts even less. I'd say you definitely came out with the better of the two options.

And even after saying that, I almost had a 1991 Vert when I was looking for another seven about a month ago. The guy selling it was wanting 5 grand for it though, and it had more miles on it that the 1984 GSL I ended up buying for 1,400.

yeah our t2 we actually found in the paper advertised as a t2 not rx7. Some kid took it to the track and messed up a coolant seal i think in it. Well picked it up for 500 bucks, put a new engine in it and its been the best car. Of course it has small problems like clutch slave is messed up, replacing it, but all lights worked, ac and heater worked, sunroof worked, windows. It was a steal too.
Also on the first gen the owners had all paperwork from day one pretty much for this car and I got all that too so its pretty neat going through all of it seeing what was done to it and all of it I know a v8 is taking away the rotory engine but if all else fails and for some stupid reason I hate it, we will have the t2 engine out of my husbands car sometime soon cause we are having a street ported engine built for his car. but this rx7 stuff is like drugs lol

Definitely like drugs. One of the most addicting things I've ever come into. With my '83, I bought it from the second owner (first owner owned it less than a year), and it came with all the info on it as well. That owner didn't know anything at all about it though, he actually tried telling me the miata was rotary powered as well. I just kept driving it along letting him ramble on, but as soon as I stepped foot out of the car the first feeling I got was "I've gotta get back into that car as soon as possible".

Skip forward a year and a half the brakes go out on me three times, and that's still to this day the only real problem I've had with it. I decided to do an engine rebuild anyway, and as soon as I pulled the engine out I had to go out and buy another one. hahaha. I've owned my '84 for about a month or so now, and I can't see myself getting rid of either one unless I absolutely have to.

Hey another female! Welcome to the best forum!
Great choice, that RX7 Looks very clean. I had a 2000 Civic Si also and there is no comparison to the 1st gen RX7. Lots of fun and not bland like the Civic. Plus I love the rotary sound. Trying to get my hubby to see the light, but he's too into Honda's.

Anyway, you got a great deal on it. You will have lots of fun with it nomatter what you drop in the bay.

Yeah hes going to be alot of help on this project. Right now I am trying to search for a really good pic of the interior, because mine only has a dash, seats, and steering. I need a good pic to see what all interior pieces I need
Its going to be a long project but I think once its done it will be well worth it.

Thanks

Damn, that is one sexy looking 7. I love how deep and wet the gloss black looks, and those rims compliment it. Are you planning on making it a mix of street and race or one or the other? Because a nice silver rollcage for the rear would make it look f'in sweet.
