The new 1st gen in the family...

Well, I just got this '82 GX [It says GX on the side, not sure what the deal is with that. Maybe GS?] for $800. It used to be University_seven's Rx-7 until he bent the suspension arm on a curb. It's already got a RB exhaust, A/C works, seats are in EXCELLENT condition, it's already wired for subs with monster cable, and lots of other stuff that I'm very happy about. I already have a parts car to steal parts from (you can see the end of it in the 3rd or 4th picture), so I should be able to get it up and running within a week. I am stoked about this, because I actually have an rx-7 that RUNS! Let me know what you guys think.

Looks like a worthwhile investment. Wish my interior looked as good. What year is the parts car and do you have a good dash in it? What color?

Looks a bit like my 81 when I first got it! Can't go wrong w/ basic white. Mine after I painted it pearl white after a few mods:
BTW: I have lots of spare parts.

At the front of the intake manifold, are there supposed to be bolts attaching it to the engine block? I'm thinking that there are supposed to be some, and that might be why it sounds like there's a miss at idle.

A small update: Got the lower suspension arm off, trying to get the suspension arm off the donor 7, but one of the bolts that holds the shock 'boot' to the 'control arm' is rusted in there (I think). Tried spraying it with PB Blaster, using a BFH, and even tried the impact wrench (100 lbs/ft torque.), still wouldn't move an inch [or perhaps a mm in this case. HAH!] Anyone have any ideas? I'm not too worried about the stuff around the arm, I just want the suspension arm itself.

As an aside, the GX model was the Canadian designation for GSL, IIRC.

Is the speedo in KPH instead of MPH?

No, it's like most other vehicles, main numbers are mph, smaller numbers are kph.

[edit] Actually, the VIN on the engine and the VIN on the body don't match, so perhaps someone did a body/engine swap and kept the dash with the engine?

GX was a Canadian model, though we also got GSL. I can't remember what the difference was. I have an '84GS, my friend Eric has an '84 GSL, and I've heard of other Canadians with the GX.

Anyhoo, yeah it was definitely a Canadian designation, but your engine/dash swap sounds like a plausible explanation.

Cool.

Well, at least it will be easier to distinguish my 7 from the 7's around here ... well, not that there are too many of those around.
