Need some wiring help please.

I'm trying to install a new stereo system. I'm somewhat new to wiring. I've run all new speaker wire, and installed new speakers. I'm trying to hook up the system now for power.

I read this thread:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...=stereo+wiring

The indication is that switched 12v is blue, white stripe, and constant 12v is blue, yellow stripe. I hooked it up with these leads from J-04 and I just have constant power. I do not have a multi-meter. I do not have a test light.

I've also looked at numerous electrical diagrams and every one seems to provide conflicting information. The pin-out of J-04 in the FSM does not match my J-04.

Also, can I ground the stereo on the stereo bracket? I am using mostly stock hardware to mount it.

the only real way to properly locate switched power is with a multi meter. you can pick one up at sears for under $20. i use them and they work great! i don't remember which wire is switched but i remember when i put the alpine stereo in my 85 GS, i probed each wire to find switched power and i soldered into a switched wire.

as far as a grounding point, i ran a new ground wire out to the lower u-shaped dash mount and grounded it straight to the trans tunnel.
