Need some info on 1st gen clutch set up

Hey guys, sorry for the newbie type questions but I dont know much about 1st gens.

Can someone tell me if the clutch system on any of the first gens is mechanic or hydro.

I'm brainstorming up a rotary project and will be in need of a mechanical clutch. I'm hoping one of the 1st gens had one

Thanks,
STEPHEN

no, its actually not going to have a transmission. I'm brainstorming a one speed belt driven (similar to motorcycle) go cart. It'll be belt driven off the flywheel assembally directly to the axle. I just need a clutch so when I'm at idle the rotating flywheel wont keep turning the wheels.

I dont want to install all the hydrolic ****. Didnt they use to just make mechanical clutches that didnt have all that ****???

Not on the RX-7. It sounds like you need either a centrifical clutch or a fluid coupled clutch of the type you would find on a go-kart, but with a higher load capacity. Such a clutch would not have any external control (clutch pedal etc.) and simply be engaged by RPM. There are some race cars (F5000??) that use that arraingement, and what are/were the Malibu Gran Prix cars using (single rotor engines)??
