Need some help with blockoff plates...

Okay,

I picked up a used Racing Beat header for my 1985 GS, but unfortunately the two blockoff plates that Racing Beat provides weren't included as part of the purchase. I found the blockoff plate for the air control and check valve on their website. Part #16325. No big deal.

The problem is finding the blockoff plate for that funny triangular shaped pipe that goes on the firewall side of the intake manifold. Racing Beat calls it a heat exchanger, so I'm assuming that's what it is. The only blockoff plate they list is for a 1976-1980. Part #16320. Will this same plate work on my 1985? It looks pretty close to mine. Not identical, but very close. Why doesn't Racing Beat list anything for 1981-1985? It's obviously still required...

Yes. I had the same issue when I put my RB exhaust in (bought it used) and that cover plate does work. I've got it on my car right now ... actually I have it on my intake manifold, which is on my engine, which isn't in my car because my car is on a rotisserie, but you get the point

You don't need that big of a block off plate though. For friends' FBs I just went down to Canadian Tire and picked up a piece of sheet metal and some tin snips and cut one. Cost virtually nothing. Just use some high-temp silicon when you install it.

just wanted to say u can make those plates cheaper than u can buy them and they don't really need to be that thick. 3mm to 1/8" thick is plenty.

I've found the rear block off on the firewall side to not be needed when the big one is installed. The big one blocks off everything, including any little holes that could suck vacuum through the firewall side hole. But whatever. Buy or make them. You're handy with hand tools, right?
