need new exhaust

so i let my dad drive my 7 and it come home loud as hell was looking at it and he ripped a hole in the case of my muffler so hes paying for a new exhaust what magnaflow mufflers are you using w/part numbers if you have them. im planning on running a 2.25'' system because the previous owner had put a 3'' all the from the cats back way to big for a na car in my opinion.

Are Magnaflows really that bad? I just got one for free and thought I would put it in. The one I got is a 2-1/2" out and the part# is 11226. Would this be good?

How long did you have it for? Did you push your car? Melted on the stock 12a? I was going to use it with my RB header/center section and with my S5 n/a block, and i thought it would be a lot better than stock.

I just now read your previous posts about your exhaust with 2 magnaflows and 1 borla. I was only going to use just that 1 magnaflow. Do you think it will be as loud as everyone says it is? If the borla really is like 4x's better then I might just sell my magnaflow and buy a borla.

i looked up magnaflow in the 1st gen section and found kgray's thread about his exhaust system. I think he had a link on there pricing the borlas for around $70? Maybe I read it wrong.

So if I were to keep my magnaflow, do I have to bring the flange and tubing to the muffler shop to have them weld it? Or can I just bring them the flange and the magnaflow and they can do/provide the rest?

Ebay. Thats where I got my Borla from. And if you want to keep the magnaflow, tell them where you want it and I am sure they can take it from there.

My magnaflow melted being at the tail end of my exhaust in under a year. One magnaflow wont be enough. I would say RB presilencer with a borla at the end. You will be very satisfied.
I dont even want to know how bad my 4" round magnaflow presilencer is melted...

agreed with the shop deal, if they cant make what you want, then you dont wanna goto them, but Ive heard about a few people that have run magnaflow and liked it, but a few of them have also switched to borla and like it better. as for melting, I can only see that happening if its filled with ceramic, stainless steel fillers should not melt. if they do then get a refund for some defective parts, unless you got ceramic packed muffler, then just chalk it up to experience. rotarys will burn that crap real quick.

Magnaflow has "special sound deadener" that melts. Anything borla is packed with 100% stainless steel. Rotaflow would be first choice, but on a budget Borla is the winner.

Kgray, just how loud is your setup? I always hear "dont do this, it'll be too loud!" and blah blah blah...just an RB silencer and Borla muffler - I heard that the RB exhaust gave it a healthy sound, but just under too loud...well, the only RB exhaust in person I have heard was on an FD and I could barely hear it at idle...I think my car idles louder than it was full throttle! (I just have a header and leaky pipe to the stock muffler)

I have a magnaflow presilencer and it is still loud. With 2 magnaflows, i had the police called on me. The borla quited it down, but i assure you with a RB center section, the sound will be sweet and will open up when you get on it. If i see a RB header and presilencer in the for sale section, i will probably end up getting that and ditching the magnaflow.
I personally dont like the sound a a full rb system. It is the muffler that makes the tone. If you cant get the rb center section, i would highly recommend a high flow cat. It will quiet it down substantially and they can be had for cheap.
