HELP,,,removing support studs from OEM ex.pipe

I am trying to remove and replace non usable support studs fitted to brackets on the OEM exhaust mid pipe for an 85 12a.

the pipe is off the car.
in particular the location is the horizontal bracket facing the passenger rear wheel with a threaded stud facing the same direction that will mate up with a rubber hanger.

I want to replace the stud.
there does not appear to be any welds but this will not hammer out and it wont rotate.. I am not sure what is holding it in accept for rust.

I would like to replace it in entirety who has some proven methods.

secondarily I could cut the stud off and drill out to the size of the thread diameter but this will leave the cap of the stud in place and chiseling is out since it will wreck the bracket.

also the same applies to the ex. gas temp nipple and two hole bracket toward the front part of the pipe. Both studs broke. I cut them off at the bracket and drilled out to the size of the thread diameter but the stud caps on the other side of the bracket would not come off.

I am resigned and it wont bother me to use small screws here.

regards,

Addition to above I could use heat from a propane torch. I dont have an acetlyene torch at the moment, just the O2 and acy tanks...still looking for a good torch.

will heat work?

Yep. Heat them up real good and then try and unscrew them with a good pair of vice grips

FirebirdSlayer hey how's it going

so these things are screwed at the bracket too?
On wheels the studs have vertical (Axial ) splines but you can hammer those out.

I would have thought drilling out the threaded part would allow the cap to come right of with a vise grip twist as in the case of the Ex temp nipple bracket since I destroyed the integrity of the fit.

It's going. Dreading the constant exhaust work on my FC. But yeah if you heat them up they should twist out or hammer out. That's how we took them out of my old exhaust manifold a few years ago. Hey maybe Wednesday we can meet up and have some lunch or something?

FirebirdSlayer

thanks for reply back + thanks for the invitation.. cant right now though ...no time to hang but I will definitely take a rain check. Just too much to do with work and some pressing things.....I think I will finally be installing the header i got from you If the gasket comes in on time. In the meantime I have a very LOUD ROTARY just using the 1st and 2nd precats.. Sounds very Kewl though if i catch myself "a little over the speed limit" above 65 on rte 70. Most dual pipe American car owners stealthfully crack their windows to listen... they think I am running a sleeper with a drag race engine. lol lol lol

Haha that's nothin to how my 83 was running just the header, daily driven for about 3 weeks or so. IT was nuts! Right now the FC is running open manifold due to my temp fix being pulled out. I hate Rotaries with no backpressure, they are just so sluggish, at least in the lowend, never gotten up past about 4K without earplugs LOL. It's cool though, I have another precat on the way so I'll drop the system and put new gaskets in and get it put back together. Hopefully no leaks after that. Sometimes I wish it were an 87 so I could throw historic tags and forget about Iinspection and Emissions!

Yep, 20 years for Historic. My GXL is an 89 so I just have inspection and emissions once and when tags come up for renewal I'll put Historics on it
