To set timing to standard specs, first make sure your idle is at about 750rpm. Hook the light up to the leading plug on the front rotor. Loosen the nut on the dizzy and turn the dizzy until the first mark on the pulley lines up with the notch on the front cover. Repeat the process for the trailing using the second mark on the pulley and the vacuum advance pot for adjustment. You always need to do the leading first since turning the dizzy advances both the leading and trailing as a whole.

If you're game I believe you can use the advance light to dial in some timing advance but you need to double the numbers for a rotary. Say if you want 24* total advance you'd need to dial in 48*. Total advance is set at around 4000rpm. If you do this you should also leave the vacuum advance disconnected.
