Need ideas on paint "accents" for 1st gen.

Ok... I'm thinking about certain paint "accents" to my 1st gen when I get around to painting it not to far from now... Here's what I'm thinking.... The car is going to be white, (along with the mirrors) keeping the stock color. All the black moulding around the vehicle will be removed. The black emblems, and hatch hinges will be painted as well, but not white... I am thinking (and here's where I need ideas) of painint those items a specific color that really stands out... something like bright red, bright blue, bright (neon) green or yellow, or who knows what else... Would that be too "ricer" or "too" something else? I wanna know what people might think when they see it.

Thanks in advance!

-Jeff

By the way, giving credit where credit is due, thank you Purple82 for giving me the idea (in the chrome/black thread) of painting the emblems and hatch hinges at all... I would have just left them black.)

jweather, i really dont think that painting those emblems a bright, obnoxious color would look good. I think that you should do something a little more classy, like a chrome or silver. The bright colors to me make the car look cheap. I say either stick with the black, or paint them chrome or silver, or just buy the new set of emblems from www.mazdatrix.com.

hmmm..... chromed might be interesting... Well, I'm really leaning toward either leaving them black, or painting them white, but still, the chrome sounds pretty neat too. hhmmmm........

I was thinking along the same lines as you to start out with, i wanted to paint some of my interior parts yellow and such. But when i started looking at pics of other peoples cars that have done this, it was really a turn off and it looked like total RICE. So, im gonna just buy the new emblem kit from victoria british since 2 of mine are broken and the others arent salvageable. Also, if you do choose another color, not black, silver, grey, or white, be very choosy about where you use it, dont overdo it.

Those pieces can look good chromed or polished, but usually on a draker coloured car. I've seen a few white rotors with polished parts, and it looks good, just not as good as on a dark car.

I really don't think anything other than black/polished would look any good at all.

I'm looking at a poster of a white RX3 right now, that has polished door handles, window surrounds, side mirrors, rims, indicator surrounds and the usual chrome bumpers etc and it looks fantastic.

Monochrome. All white. Then you paint your brake calibers bright blue and put a blue stripe down the groove in the rubber molding and you've got a bad *** looking car.

I went with a much more conventional 'look' when I repainted, primarily because I wanted my car to look like the retro-classic that it is. Flashy stripes and 'white-out' appearance don't suit the car well, and I think I'd get tired of that over time.

Instead, what I did was replace all emblems with new from VB, and also bought new reflectors and indicator lights all around - plus new bulbs. The older reflectors had gotten faded over time and just looked old. It's amazing what a difference this makes when you get the new parts on, and with black beltline trim, black emblems, and new reflectors and lights, it looks just like Mazda intended it to - and what I fell in love with so long ago.

You can go with an updated paint color to get a more modern look, but overall, I think that changes to the scheme tend to look like you're chasing the everyday fads that are so common these days. The classic lines of the RX-7 should be matched to a classic color and presentation, but hey, that's just me...

Are you talking about the car in your sig? You've removed it pretty far from the classic Rx-7 look already if you asked me.

Not my cup of tea. It 'll look like the painter was lazy removing or masking those peices and just painted over them. I see a lot around here (Not Rx7's).

The 1992-93 Integra GSR, the 10AE Rx-7 and the second generation MR2 turbo are all the best looking versions of their respective body styles. they all have body colored trim where the lesser versions use black.

Monochrome can look sharp. My buddy did his 82 several years ago. It's a dedicated autocross car and can be seen on the opening page of ppscc.net .
The car has darkly tinted windows that provides good contrast. I'm still spending money on getting my 79 Limited autocrosser to perform, paint will have to wait.

I did mine Two Tone. I used Tornado grey from the 86 RX7 on top, and at the character line at the middle of the car, I switched to Black Mica. Looks real nice...

The 10AE was a 1988 Model year, making it an S4... I thought all S4 cars were black trimmed.

Although car of the decade appears to have color keyed trim...

So I could be worng.

What I was thinking about doing was shaving all side molding, door handles and locks and putting a single red pinstripe down the top bodyline. Car would be painted black, no metallic. BTW it has red interior.

The 10AE was the only S4 with all white trim. It also had white tail lights and wheels.
