need help!! taking apart diff.

the diff in my 84gsl is broken it was making all sorts all grinding an breaking noises so i am swapping it. and i need to know if i need to take off the bolt on the front part of the diff

If you are changing the complete pumkin (assembly with gears in place) which is removed from the front of the banjo do not remove the big nut. Do what you need to do to pull the axles out, remove the bolts at the front of the banjo & remove the pumpkin.

Ditto, if you break the pinion nut loose, then you need to set the lash and replace the crush sleeve. Best to leave it alone and swap the unit.

right now i am seeing if i need to replace to whole axle and everything or just the gears

so i just need to take out the axles and swap the pumpkin (middle piece) and not take off the large nut on the front where the driveshaft connects
