aws140: There is a strap that goes around the column with a bolt in it. It is on the bottom side of the switch. Loosen that up and it should slide right off.

Midwest 7's: It could be your switch. You may have to test it out with a multimeter (volt meter). You should search the forum a bit and then start a new thread about it if you can't find the answer. I know this thread is related to your problem, but some people don't like it when others ask questions in their thread (makes it go off topic and the original poster may not get their answer).

Good luck to both of you.

In addition to loosening the bolt at the bottom, there is also a tab on the top at the rear of the switch. You have to pull up on that tab while pulling to get it off. The tab is plastic so don't break it. This tab sits in a little hole in the column, presumably to keep the switch in exactly the right position.
