need to hotwire car or figure out a way to have car run without key (series of cut off switches i dont care, hell i doubt anyone could steal it, they would have to crank for about 30 mins to get it to start, hehe stupid old carb)

When I bought the car it only had one key I knew better and was going to make a copy, but never went, figures.

Dont hot wire it

Just get a key made from the VIN number...

You could remove the igntion tumbler and use a flat head to start it, but thats a lot of mess just for a 2 dollar key.

they can make keys for some cars based on VIN numbers. not all years and not all cars. I also don't think you can get it done in every state.

I suppose a call to your local mazda dealership wouldn't hurt.

I'm just gonna tell you. Almost any key ever made will work in both the ignition and door locks, I've opened and started my car with VW GM and padlock keys.

I always use that little black magnetic box wal-mart sells for spare keys. I stick it under the car, but not so it could fall down. just about ever car has a space underneath that will alow you to put the magnet facing down and support the box on all sides so it won't slide around. The one under my Explorer been there for years, and its been bumper deep in mud and snow. Ever been thousands of miles from home and lost a key? I love that box.

Go to a lock smith! They DO work majic! They can bring some blanks and munkey around with them till they get a working key, it DOES work.

Oh, and off the subject, one of my mazda keys, opens some other mazda's of the same key style. It was a accidental discovery using my key on someone elses '85 Rx-7 that amased me. BTW, it was a copy that could do this.

I agree with Wacky, get a locksmith to come out to your car. They're usually cheaper and far quicker that having a dealer try to find your VIN key, and a whole lot cleaner than stealing your own car.

BTW: all the mentions of other keys starting your cars, it has much more to do with old & worn out tumblers & keys than anything else.

Use as slide hammer with a dry wall screw in the end. Screw it into the ignition pull it out and use a screwdriver to turn the car on. Or you can do what I did and convert it all to toggle switches with a big push button starter then you don't have to worry about any keys!!

You just wanna have it run, or do you wanna drive it?

I can tell you how to have it run... You'll still have a locked steering wheel though...

Get long lengths of wire...

Run one wire from the positive battery terminal to the fuel pump. (Use a test light to figure out which wire is ground.. then put the + wire to the opposite one.)

Connect another + positive bettery wire to the ignition coils... There is one lug on each coil that normally is connected to the + battery terminal when the ignition is in the "RUN" position.

Now push start the car... Of if you can't do that, touch a third + wire to the starter solenoid or a few seconds.

EDIT: Upon consulting my 1985 factory manual, you may not need the fuel pump wire... The ignition circuit is connected to a lot of other essential systems.
