need help asap

last night I came home, and I turned the corner to my house. and the car just started running like crap, it was idling at about 3k, and backfiring, the car was actually shaking, and honestly I wish my car had enough power to do that.
so I shut it off, and my friends and I were looking underneath, it was night time. and I swear it was like I had red neon underneath from how hot my cats were glowing. so I'm thinking that it's a clogged cat, can anyone help my figure this out?
I'd greatly appreciate it.
God bless.

sounds like you may be getting some extra air in after the carb. I would look to see that your carb base seal is still good.

Yep. Sounds like you have one hell of a vacuum leak. Try what vic'srx-7 suggested and also check all the hoses and emissions junk arround the carb and manifold for leaks. Sorry I can't be more specific but I ,ahem, "lost" all that crap years ago.

Lost it huh?
I have this wild idea (just a premonition) that mine will turn up "missing" soon...

Most of us will admit we chucked our emissions in the woods. As for your vacuum leak, spray some wd40 around the base of your carb and intake with the engine running. When you spray the leak, your car will start to run better while the wd40 gets ingested through the leak. Be very careful not to let any drip on the exhaust manifold. It WILL flash on you.
