need to find fule pump relay
Going for the obvious, have you looked at the connection under the driver's side storage bin? That's where the connector is for the fuel pump. I wasn't aware that there was a relay for the pump on the 12A cars, but now I see a fuel pump cur relay in the 85 manual. Right where cdrad51 says it is.

Yeah, that jumper wire and eliminating the relay, bypasses it altogether. Alternatively, like I did, you can install a switch there. Comes handy as anti-theft device, flood engine handling, etc.

i have found the fule pump relay and used a wire to bypass it. thanks so much for all the help. it saved me so much time and trouble. it would have taken me to much time to find the relay. thanks to everyone for their contribution.

hmmm the fuel pump in my car runs whenever the key is turned to "on". Does this mean that the relay has been bypassed on my car?
I pulled a black box that was above the clutch pedal, The car still turned on.. I wonder if I need to put it back. I looked around with a flashlight and couldn;t find anything that resembled a black box. or for that matter any connector that had 6 connectors except for the one I mentioned.

There isn't a reason to have a relay on that. If you just jump it over like that, it will work fine.
The fuel pump cuts on and off with the car now. Same as it did with the relay. . .

well I removed some black box from above the clutch pedal that had six connector on it. I ahve a '82 gsl. My car starts with the stroke of the key now. I thought that it was because I had something wrong with my ignition, emmission or carb set up. I thought it was the accelerator pump still. thats why I am asking. I wish I had a digital camera to take a pic. Its about 2.5" sq. Well the car starts better than my friends '79 thats got a rebuildt engine. I had to pump the gas pedal afew times before, not I just turn key it. Even when its a cold morning.. just turn key
I didn;t have to add a jumper to it. I wonder what it does if its got nothing to do with the fuel pump. If anyone can sheds some light on this black box thingy
