Need Engine Help Please!!

Hey there RX7 heads i am needing some help on my engine.
I just purchased a 1980 rx7 that has the 12a motor in it. The guy that i purchased it from moved and had the car sitting since 2003. I towed the car to a friends house and started on what i know which is very little. I replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributer cap and rotar and then i got some starting fluid. I tested the spark from the plugs and the wires and it was great. I sprayed the starting fluid into the carb and tried starting the motor for about 30 minutes with little accomplishment. Please let me know what you would do. I do have motor skills so just let me know the process you would go through and i will do just as you say.

PS. When i got the car the spark plug wires were unplugged at the block. I figured t1 and L1 are top and lower closest to the radiator and T2 and L2 are the ones behind. Please Please Please help me i want to drive this baby so bad. Thanks

Easy way to remember where plug wires go.
T=Trailing or Top
L= Leading or Lower
1=front
2=rear

Disable the ignition, pull the plugs and crank it.

Sounds like it's flooded to me.

Gasoline goes bad sitting up. Pump out all the old gas and put some fresh stuff in the tank.

Does it have any compression?

Have you tried pouring an ounce of ATF down the throats of the carb? Sometimes that will free up stuck seals, and bring back compression. Sometimes tow starting it at 2000 rpm in 2nd or 3rd gear will make one with stuck seals start.

Don't use ATF (automatic transmission fluid) for deflooding! It has some nasty side effects. Most recommend using regular motor oil, dumping a couple of caps full down the large barrels on the carb.

I have found that Seafoam works better. It doesn't foul the plugs like oil or ATF will, it actually cleans them up and frees up the apex seals to boot.

When a rotory floods, you can't get it started like you can a piston engine. The flooding kills the compression. Try the Seafoam and she'll most likely start right up if your problem is flooding. Good luck.

I had the same problem with my 84GS last summer, and all I had to do is push-start it using my truck. Changing the fuel is also a good idea.
