Need advise, last thread didnt get it across.
I have a tII mounted in my fb I plan on running the stock turbo with a front mount IC and all of that good stuff,I am wondering if the stock turbo will benefit from being mounted up front more, like an aftermarket turbo manifold would do,I know it will be better because it wont heat the hell out of the intake manifold giving me lower intake temps but will it spool different or have any kind of adverse affects from this.I plan on getting a bigger turbo and front mount(garret t04r & greddy 3-row) but in the meantime/this winter, I want to fool around with the stock turbo and see if it will be fun,any advise on this would be great,I have everything to do this I just want some feedback to see if mounting the stock turbo like an aftermarket would be worthwhile,Thanx!

Yup,it is a series 4 tII and it is using the stock turbo and manifold,I want it away from the intake manifold, closer to the radiator,I just need to know if it will spool different mounted up front like an aftermarket turbo is mounted.

Why complicate things?
The stock turbo is tucked in close to benefit from the hot, direct exhaust pulses that are shot out the ports. Its gonna get hot down there regardless of if the turbo is 1" or 5" from the intake.Just use the stock heatsheild that goes between the intake and the turbo and youll be fine until you decide to upgrade.
I had my stock S5 turbo absolutely screaming up to 14psi and it was a hoot!Got me some consistant 13.5 timeslips back in 01' running up to 14psi......even with the stock top mount IC I still never had any detonation issues, although I couldnt sustain boost for more than a drag run or two, without some cooldown time.Intake temps would hit 175*F due to over spinning the small, stock compressor. With a front mount IC and a hybrid TO4B in the same stock mounting position Ive been pusing 14psi for over 6 years and have never had my intake temps go past 140*F.The close vicinity of the intake and turbo is not much of an issue on a streetcar or the short duration blasts of a drag racer. If your road or endurance racing, then Id be concerned.

Thanks man,I know I should just wait,Thats good advise,I really should spend my time learning this E6X I bought, 14 pounds huh, I'd be happy with that,I better research the stock turbo,I'm new to turbo's and I think 14 would be awesome,I still need MORE though,at least after that first drive in it I will

On the stock turbo..........while the hotside is pretty big(especially on the S5) the compressor is still a relatively small T-3 sized unit,so I highly recommend you keep it around 12psi......14psi is really bagging on the stock turbo. It sounded awesome, but my intake temps were horrendous and when it came time to upgrade to a TO4B hybrid,I had to replace the entire turbine shaft because the bearings were shot$$$$$$.
The S4 turbo is especially prone to overboosting because of the crappy wastegate and smaller hotside A/R......be careful not to blow things up,seriously....boost creep is a big issue with S4 engines/turbos.Also,more boost doesnt always mean more power.I can make more power at 10 psi now than I did at 14psi before, because I run a ported engine and a WAY better intercooler. My TO4B compressor is just loafing along when making full boost now, whereas the stock turbo was screaming and heating the air un-neccesarliy.
Lower turbo boost means less heat, due to less compression.Less heat means less reliance on intercooling and less restriction to the intake flow.
