Exclamation Mystery Oil Leak

Hey all.. iv'e just installed a 12a street port into my car.. and ive noticed fresh oil on my hood and Dizzy cap.. Not alltogether sure whats going on.. but it's getting spread around by the fan belt.. so it must be close to it..

it's really gooping up my underhood area.. and i just cleaned it all..

also.. a significant amount of oil is coming from whatever this leak is.. in 700 KM's i have gone from half the safe zone on the dipstick to the bottom of the safe zone.

any idea's would be greatly appreciated.

Near the front? Is the oil metering pump blocked off?
If not, it could be somewhere around there.

is that the little guy with 2 hoses coming from it beside the output shaf pulley?

no it's all stock.. i inject oil from the crank case. i suppose i should go see if any of the bolts are loose.. if not.. check the gasket?

how do i check to see if it's leaking? if indeed i do stop the leak.. would a blast from a pressure washer under the hood hurt anything? (to rid the engine bay of oil)

Clean the bay, start the engine, let it idle. Look around the area of the 12A logo on the front rotor housing and the passenger side front, near the bottom.

Another thing to check is to make sure your eccentric pulley bolt didn't come out. I had that happen on my 2nd gen once when I was a novice.... NOT good!
Otherwise Im with trochoid on this one

top end of the motor is spotless.. not the leak of death. (Always a bonus)

the bolts on the OMP were a little on the loose side.. i snugged them up. i also went ahead and snugged up all the bolts for the front Iron. (water or Oil pump i can't remember wich)

i snugged anything i could.. but only 1 or 2 were actually a bit less than snug. Most were tight.

this IS a FRESH engine by the way.. only 600 KM's on it so far.

if it was the OMP.. i'm a little confused as to how the oil gets on the fan belt.. or at least on the pulley to be sprayed on the inside of my hood.

will taking it over to the local truck wash (friend works there) and wanding the motor down with degreaser hurt anything? concidering that it would get a thourough wanding with hot water afterward..

thanks guys

well.. i think iv'e found the spot.. or at least i think i have..

after cleaning all the dirtiest and most likely spots.. the culprate appears to be my distributor..

it seems to be leaking from on top of the plate that sits over the hole down to the e-shaft. (is that possible?)

the MOP doesn't seem to have any oil on it as of yet.. and the top end is still spotless..

but somehow the oil is still spraying off my fan belt.. I'll check that main pulley Nut and see if it's loose.. If it is loose, should i just put her in 5th and pull on the e-brake so the motor doesn't turn when i wrench on it?

thanks again guys

Iirc, there is a rubber o-ring around the dizzy shaft that seals the splash oil in the front cover. There is no oil pressure in the front cover unless the o-ring between the front cover and iron has failed, or the crankcase isn't vented.

get some oil dye - stick it in and run the car to figure the source of the leak

i can't pinpoint it.. wherever it is it's getting on the fanbelt and spraying EVERYWHERE!

vert tough to pinpoint.. iv'e added bardahl stop leak to the sytem, but it doesn't seem to be helping at all.

as for that dye.. i need some sort of blacklight to see it do i not?

i don't think the dye is going to help me, because the oil gets sprayed everywhere..

this is really annoying me.. help

Was it loose and leaking? Or was it tight and leaking?
