My TII SE swap pics LONG

This project started almost exactly 2 years ago when i bought a 1984 GSL-SE non running for 500 bucks and sold my 84 GS for 2,000. I was at the local gym playing basketball and an rx7 owner happened to be driving by and see my car. I bet it wasnt hard since it was bright yellow and had the super spoiler on it(bought it this way).he stood outside of the gym for an hour until i came out. He told me that he was selling a 83 rx7 ported with all kinds of stuff on it for 3K and it had a parts car that came with it. Well i didnt have the money for the car but i bought the SE instead. I took it home as basically a shortblock with almost the whole engine bay in the inside of the car. Two weeks later i had it all back together and running with the help of a new fuel pump, gaskets, vacuum hoses. I drove it for a while and had fun with it. I new that it wouldnt last long since it had 249,000 on it so i started planning on what i was going to do next to it. I started researching on a TII swap and decided to do it. After buying a 88 tii for a parts car for 600 bucks i had alot of the things needed, but i got alot more while i was doing the swap.I picked up haltech e6k, act clutch, custom driveshaft, boost and a/f gauges, custom motor mounts, and alot more.
the whole project was going good until i came home from college and was about to mount my radiator. Somebody had stolen my radiator, intercooler, apex turbo timer, leading coil, and a few other parts so the project was delayed a few weeks while i tried to find some replacment parts. Right now ive got most of the parts i need and most of the things on the car are done. all i have left is to wire the headlights, get an exhaust made, and mount the radiator. Right now im getting the intercooler piping made by my neighbor who has a mandrell bender and all kinds of tools. Yes that is pvc pipe right now for a mockup of what i needed/wanted it to look like. well heres some pics and ill try to update when something new happens but it wont be until april 22 weekend when i go home from college(college is the main reason for my project taking so long. i only go home one or two weekends a month).

wait a minute, you didnt use a 12a front cover. NOIIICE, can you get an underside shot of those mounts? that's a good setup, i like!

Awesome! I plan on doing a TII swap here shortly, but money is a bit of a problem as of right now. Not that I have to pay bills or anything, I just don't have enough money right now, and I'm trying to concentrate on passing emmissions right now. I plan on doing the swap into my '83 parts car first so that I can do all the fabrication while still being able to drive my '82 [the car that will be getting the final swap].

dude, you could probably make some money selling those motor mounts, would save alot of hassel for ppl putting tii engines in first gens

alright i try to get some asap.

it bolts to the engine the same way as the stock TII motor mounts do and it has abolt welded on the inside of the mount and a nut goes on the bottom when you place it on the subframe,

Is there any rubber/polyurethane/other softish material cushioning between the mount and subframe or between the mount and the engine itself?

the metal itself costed 80$ so i really doubt thati would be able to sell them that cheap

Ick... I guess I'll just modify my own.

With the TII swap, you can use the original motor mounts and modify them, correct?

I'm guessing you used the TII tranny as well since you had to get a custom driveshaft made, correct?

that sure doesnt look like 80 dollars worth of metal, lol
theres a shop here in spokane i could get that much alluminum for about 30 bucks

im not sure if you can modify the mounts to fit because they sit around 6in to far back from the frame.
yeah i used the TII tranny and made a mount for that too.

its 1/2" stainless steel, i bought a 2 square foot sheet of it for 78.XX at a steel/welding company.

Well, I would use a 12a front cover if I kept the stock mounts.

What are the advantages of not having the front cover? Is it purely for weight reduction?

i really dontknow I just felt like doing it this way because its different and not very difficult. The only problem i ran into was hood clearance on the coolant filler neck

its possible but it wouldnt be ready anytime soon because of college and i would have to go home to make it.
