Thumbs up My TII/GSLSE swap...with pics!

so i got a deal on a TII longblock, wiring harness, ecu, afm and whatnot. No tII transmisson, but i dont want to go through the process of making it fit and cutting it down. I have enoungh NA transmissions, and this isnt going to be some huge power numbers build. The other TII and the Isuzu are meant to fill that need.

the car i got from columbus ohio in conjunction with another GSLSE for 1000 total last year. The black car had rust beyond the point of repair so i drove it around until i wrecked it. Parted it out, thought i would get the silver running with its old parts, but the the motor in the silver car is questionable. (maybe bad coolant seal). I traded the GSLSE motor from the black car for the TII setup.

But basically here is where everything is at. TII motor is cleaned, GSLSE front cover is on. Need to make the oil return before i can put the oil pan on ( to ensure no metal bits get in there...) ECU is in, started running the wiring harness, cleaning off ancient dirt from the engine bay.

BEFORE:

CURRENTLY!

it seems that there is a indented circle below the MOP that is in the same postion as the TII one. I think that is the one im going to be using.

With the right parts it's a direct drop-in/bolt-in (GSL-SE front cover, GSL-SE oil pan), but other factors need to be considered. Fuel injection, ignition system, fuel system, exhaust, induction system, transmission and several other things need to be thought out and planned.

Not completely bolt in, but very close, especially if your going s4. Also, is it possible that the SE front covers are also the front covers that Mazda used on the 12at's and thats why that spot is there, for the oil return on a 12at? Just a theory....

i beleive a normal 12A also has an unused circle there, but the thickness is a bit different.

Thats what Ive heard too....and it makes sense because the 12AT came first,it was the first EFI Mazda rotary, and the first 4 pipe oil injector equipped(I think) engine that Mazda sold.If they already had a front cover that fit the bill, there would be no reason to design and build another one for the limited production GSL-SE.

i thought the 12at was carbed and the GSLSE was the first EFI rotary.

It had a basic carb/TBI style throttle, but there were a pair of 800cc injectors, one for each rotor.....how they got a little 12A to idle regularly on 800's is beyond me!
