Angry My tach is dead!!

I thought a while back I had seen a post about tach's that had stopped working but could'nt find it.
What do I need to do to get my tach working again?

slap the **** outta the dash, makes mine work....

but my whle cluster gets fucked up when the tach dies, all the warning lights come on and none of the gauges work, slap dash and it all works again, man i need to re-wire the car.

The tach gets it's signal from the trailing ignitor... might wanna check that out.

but if the trailing ignoitor goes out the fuel pump also stops working so the tach is probally shot.

It had been jumping for a while at idle but was fine when driving. Then one day it went crazy and would jump to redline at idle and I had to drive to Portland State University that day which is an hour away and about every 10 minutes the buzzer would go off. That was a long drive but on the way home it pooped out totally. So is the tach gone? Do I need to get another one?

I dont know about the 84-85s, but that's not the case for the 79-83 cars.

84-85 that is the case trailing ignitor goes south and car stops with no fuel

Take the connector off the trailing ignitor and put it back on. Be sure to clean the contacts. You might also have a bad ignitor.

i posted the same message yesterday, but no ones replied to mine

my tacho isnt working either, i know the needle isnt jamed because the voltage meter still works.

im gona have to check my trailing coil cus i think thats my problem because i have a i think i have a crapy lead on that one.

i checked my coils
and the leading one is half alright and the trailing one is totaly dead,
switched aroud and the tacho is working now
but i still need 2 new ones now

lucky i havent driven the car yet, it's still on chasy stands
