My Strut Bar Design: *PICS*
Wow, I really like Trochoids' RE bar.

Looks like it would clear my intake and alternator too.
These should be brought back into production.

Hey Trochoid, what kind of pump is that near your firewall on the driver's side? Fuel? Water Injection?

Nice clean and simple design, but I prefer round instead of square tube. Which ever tube you end up with, make the ends like the RE bar on my widebody, then you won't need to cap or finish the ends. 2 bolts at the ends of the bar won't add anymore stability than the single bolt does.
I do agree with you I like round bar more than square bar. It's just stronger. His design is simple though and will wourk for 99.99 percent of FB owners.

I think that you could use this with the stock airbox if you were to cut off the black plastic snorkel that sticks out on it. It should clear just fine after that.
I was planning on making some more of these things and selling them, but I'm not sure now. I can't really set up a group buy on the forum without paying advertising costs to the owners, which I completely understand. That wouldn't be fair to the people who pay to advertise their products here. So, if I do make more of these then I'll likely be selling them on E-bay....

You should. I encourage you to.
Will they let you make a post giving a link to ebay? Seems kinda like a gray area. Like you'd be diverting attention away from teh sites ring of everybody involved

LOL, the 'valve/pump' near the firewall is my line lock. I have another one I need to install since it's now set up to lock out the rear brakes. I need a second line lock because the Master brake cylinder has a seperate line for each front brake.
Skidtron, 1 bolt is more than suffiicient, I have yet to see any another strut bar made with 2 bolts.
Blylfy makes 3 for the old RE bars, but his is steel and very rusty, mine's stainless and still has the original RE sticker on it. It's one of my most prized parts on the widebody and they should be reproduced since I feel they are one of the best and I'm not a fab of the big RB one.
As far as the debate between welding and bolting, a bolt offers more cross sectional shear and if it was welded, the bar may not fit if the unibody is tweaked at all. A bolt allows for a little wiggle room during the install.

I'd be down for an RE replica brace. Looks fantastic and will be nice and solid. Maybe you could just post a thread in the FS section and whoever is interested can PM you
Looks like I've just been schooled on the idea of Bolts in Suspension Componets. Glad to learn something new, puts all those slighty de-threaded motor mount bolts into persective. Along with the whole idea of Force ----------> Travling to the firewall through a Triangulated Brace. Those familiar with actual racing, know the rules reguarding Triangulated Braces, Never fully understood the rule untill today.
Though I would share a recap of my new knowledge* Just a thought...

Is anybody in the first gen section close to zip 47374?? Just wondering. I was hoping to test fit some things on another car since mine is taken apart at the moment.....

You can say that again! I couldn't get ANYTHING done on my car last night cause it was just too cold out in the garage. Usually I can get by with 3 pairs of pants and 3 shirts, but it just wasn't cutting it yesterday. I couldn't even touch my tools without freezing my hands. Gave up and went inside. I think it was about 4 degrees outside with 15-20mph winds. Supposed to warm up the next couple of days though. Maybe I can finally get something done again...

I like it alot! Where did you get your endplates made at? Cut them yourself or did you get a machine shop to make them?
You wouldn't happen to want to send me those cad files would you? There is a waterjet here at the school that I wouldn't mind trying them out on. :P (DEFINATLY understand if you want to hang on to them. It was a long shot)

Here are the pictures of the actual bar I made. I just got it done yesterday, and threw some blue paint on it in the spirit of the stock air cleaner. Used Grade 8 bolts, washers, and nuts to attach to the base plates. I've still got to get some plastic caps to put on the ends of the tubing so that you can't see inside. That's just a minor detail though. It's 99% done though. What do you guys think??
