My Story...
I have been lurking on this board now for about 2 years, since I first came into contact with an 85 rx7 for sale. I missed the deal but I was amazed at the rotary engine. I saw it and knew that it was how an engine should be, it made sense. Now, about a year ago I finally bought an RX7, a 1982 rex that had been sitting in a paking lot for 2 years. I paid $500 for the car, it had suface rust on the hood and sunroof, a torn up interior and pirelli tires. Much to my pleasure the car managed to drive back to my house, about 20 miles, but it was apparent that it needed to have the carb rebuilt. So after working on the body to remove the rust I finally took off the carb and took it to a shop to have it rebuilt(this being my dream car, I didn't want to mess it up). After two weks I picked up the carb and put it back on only to find out that it was worse, NO fuel went into the engine, so I got my money back and did it myself, 3 times. But the carb still isn't right, the shop apparently lost two of the weights, so I am buying a new one. But over the past year I have been reading and worrying about my car. So now I have finally decided to post my triumph. My car has no rust in the wheel wells, no rust in the storage compartments, 128,000 miles on the engine, and 95 PSI compression on all faces of both rotors. My only problem is the carb and maybe fuel pump. And it drains a battery in about two weeks, don't know why, new battery. But I think for 500 dollars I cold not have found a better deal for this great car.
P.S.: sorry the post is so long and seemingly erratic, but I am very happy right now.

I'm not sure what carb to buy. From what I gather here, the Holleys are great, IF you can tune them, Webers don't have a choke which can make starting difficult and Mikuni(sp?) and Dellorto are great but expensive and hard to find parts fro. Then there is always the great Sterling carb, which is what I will probably do when I get the time and money to ship it to him.
I'll agree with you on the Mikuni. Great until it breaks. Very hard to find rebuild parts for. If you are interested I might still have a line on my old one. I'm in the middle of a TII swap so I sold it, but the guy I sold it to wants to do a v8 swap now.
Thanks, I'm still deciding, and first I need to flush my gas tank and replace my fuel pump. But thanks for the info and I'll probably be posting more now that I know my car was worth it.
