My SE motor's port job...

the porting didn't go without issue, on the second pic, u can see where theres a bit of a messed up spot on the top of the port... its from my bit being unevenly worn, and touching the side of the plate... i still need to do 1 exhaust port, but thats no biggy... the plates are all at atkins right now being cleaned up and i'm guessing painted black like atkins likes to do... if they aren't i'm gonna cry lol

Before the motor goes together you should put a small bevel on the closing of the port. I can't find the thead, but judge ito posted this. On a large port the leading edge of the side seal can become un-supported and it can actually hit the closing edge of the port, putting a bevel on it lets the side seal just ride back up easily. Do not round the edge of the side seal, it would keep the seal from breaking, but it would also leak compression. I think the bevel would be easiest to do with a small/medium sized sanding wheel on a dremel.

i did put a bevel on the ports on the intermediate plate, but i see what you mean about the ones on the front and rear plate, i'll look into doing that, shouldn't be too hard... thx for the suggestion

I think I already mentioned this when I first saw that port, but that's gonna cause some serious overlap. I've got a bit of overlap just from my large exhaust port, and I didn't even touch the bottom part of the intake port.

Yeah, make sure you run the rotors on there with shaft b4 putting it together to make sure the side seal doesn't catch on the port. It has been done b4 several times, so better watch out.

thanks! that helps a ton, so that now i see EXACTLY what has been talked about... it also kind of pissed me off... cause now i understand why my last TII motor chewed up a side seal... the port work was done by a rotary shop in my area(which is now under new ownership) and they did a "street port" but didn't taper anything... ruined a perfectly good 93 rotor too...

I'd like to port my 12A... I'm going to buy a dremel sometime. Any suggestions?

I'll probably dig up some old housings and try it out...

Who's the man I need to talk to about porting? The NoPistons link is dead.

thats odd, links not dead for me... suggestion i got for the dremel at least is to make sure its the 5 speed edition... u don't want the 3 speed one... for me i just use grinding stones and a carbide cutter for the big cutting/chawing... and follow the lines... otherwise ur askin for trouble... i don't have the luxury of a template, i've just used the knowledge i gained from both this forum and atkins and the ports i've seen both at atkins and pineapple... maybe u need to be a member of nopistons to click that link?
