My opinion on a highly debated topic
Hey all, dont burn me, i just really really gotta say this. Today is teh first time i saw this car while i was reading trhough the archives and man do i have some comments.First off here is what im referring to:\
WTF was this person thinking. I can see making minor changes to the bodystyle of a RX. Air Dam, spoiler, rear wrap, but what the hell. Thats not even worth of the mazda name, let alone the RX-7 title. Theres 3 reasons you buy a RX-7, their fast, They look awesome, or it was cheap and u needed a ride, and none of the 3 require the stupidity to make it look that horrible. That car barely resembles a RX-7 and needs to be converted back or seomthing.

LoL, I seriously wonder if this guy knows about his "fame" on this board...

I'm gonna go against the grain a little here.... I don't see the big deal with this car.
The car itself definitely does not look like an RX-7 anymore and I see that as a problem... but when you block out the idea that this car was once an RX-7 then it actually looks pretty good. The work on the car looks very clean and well done. It's not like this is some ricer with an aluminum wing, cut springs, and NOS stickers from end to the other. This is a clean, tastefully done car, just the owner had a different vision of the car than most people here do.
Would I ever do it to mine? Nope, I like the stock appearance, but I just don't see why this car keeps getting brought up over and over again as THE "bad example". I've seen a lot worse looking 7's.
Or maybe I'm just missing the big joke b/c I haven't been around long enough?

I agree...
I actually like the car. It definetely doesn't look like a Rex anymore. And i don't understand why you would want to buy an RX7 when all you were gonna do is make it look like it isn't an RX7.
However, i do like how clean it is, unique... and the lines are great. Virfighter is right... at least it doesn't have a huge boeing wing, V-tec stickers, and neon window washer lights... but still definetely not something i'd want to do to an RX7.

One could argue that a RX7 Widebody racecar doesn't look like an RX7. To me its all about the fundamentals, the way it handles and the way it drives will always be RX7 no matter what it looks like.
Looks is preference, but really....don't we all want power

eh.. it's clean it's unique... was it worth the $$? prolly not...
I like this one better anyway

of course, I suppose I could just buy a porsche if I wanted something that looked liek one..

Shoot.. I think it would cost less to get a 944 than it would to get that body kit done!!!
BTW- Do all you want to your car, just don't expect to come on here and get "hey, that looks good" comments. We're here because we like the Rx-7, not because we like to rip the body apart and make it look like a 944... if you want a 944, get a 944, but..... dammit, it's a lost cause. I quit.

The Forum filters need to be able to recognize the fingerprint of that purple rex pic so an auto-delete feature can be used to make sure we never see that freakin' car again....if it wasn't for the crappy Supra wing, it wouldn't be half bad...the color sux, though, sorry...

Tell ya what, kids...
The reason I got my first Rx-7 was because I could'nt afford a Porsche. I suspect most of you did not exit the whomb knowing and appreciating the rotary engine, either, and further suspect many of you were drawn to your first Rx-7 for it's looks.
Like many of you, I came to fall in love with the rotary engine, and so have become quite attached to the Rx-7.
However, I very much like the Datsun 240 z, Triumph GT6, Opel GT, 2nd and 3rd gen Corvettes, and a multitude of other models that ressemble each other. Save the Vettes, I would gladly give up my "dime a dozen" Rx-7 to have any of the others rotary equiped and done as perfectly as this example appears.
Japanese sportscars were made to be affordable by skimping on things.
...The body skins rotting off of z cars, and easily dented on Rx-7s demonstrates that clearly.
If there was any part of the Rx-7 that truely holds it back from being on par with Porsche, ect, it's the tinny, slapped-together body to which little detailed attention is given. Though a sexy design, it was undoubtably siplified to eliminate production-binding detailing.
The general shape of the body is well maintained in this example, save the wing. But the attention to detail far exceedes the factory look, and Ty Henriquez should be applauded for the efforts that none of you seem to be able get off your lazy asses and put forth.
...That multicolored piece of **** with the Camaro grille is someones attempt at a look they concieved in their head.
Can you concieve a "look" in your head(s)?
Then can you also execute that look?
That guy tried.
...but at least he tried.
With fifty thousand of the cars produced for three of the six years they were made, and production numbers not falling off by 1/2 at that, there should be quite a bounty of first generation Rx-7s to "play" with; or butcher.
We are by no means a small "pure", "elite" group of owners of limited edition automobiles.
Stop acting like purists and elitists.

NO!!!!
God have mercy on their souls!
Holy Chrust, that is the absolute most grotesquely horrid thing I've ever seen haveing to do with a car.
No joke, that's right up there with pictures of dead children.
BURRRRRRRN.
Sorry, Timmy....thanks for bringing this pic out, I haven't seen that one.
