My New Wheels: SSR MK-3

Just put these on today, here are the specs:

SSR MK-3 Type B, 15x6.5 +19 offset, 3-piece wheels
Yokohama M7R 195/55-15 tires

They were shipped directly from Japan by a guy in California, which I bought them off of. It doesn't get more Gay-DM then this guys, even the tires are Japan only. I'm not sure how old they are exactly, but they're mint right down to the original Speed Star center caps and valve caps. Apparently these are the street version of the wheels found on the Mazda Factory Race RX-7s back in 1979:

Anyways, here are some pics:

It looks great, but you need som fatter rubber on there. Some 215's would look awesome on the rear!

Thanks for the compliments guys. I do plan on going with fatter rubber on the rears eventually, and possibly redoing the centers in gold.

Carl - Yes these are from eBay, the guy almost ended the auction early because he still wanted them for his 81 he just finished restoring.

Getting the car lower is next on my list, the RB springs don't do much. Luckily I can actually tuck these wheels under the fenders, unlike my old Riken's. Still haven't really decided on a set-up. It actually looked low with 13's, but the new combo raised it about another inch off the ground, here's a before pic:

Thumbs up Ssr Mk-3 Looks Great On Your Car!!

Wow! What a small world to find the wheels & tires I sold on eBay here!
Matsuda - These wheels were purchased new in Japan in 1998, only for the stock car shows in Japan from 1998 - 2000.
They are less than 120 miles old and the tires were purchased at the same time. Used only between the show site
to show site. I imported these wheels & tires in 2001 and since then, they have been sitting in my storage for 4 years.
These wheels looks great on your car!! I'm glad!
For my 81 RX-7 I am currently restoring, I've decided to put SSR MK-2's.

I love SSR wheels and I put SSR EX-C wheels on my 85 GSL-SE.

It's nice to see you here again! Talk to you soon!

Koh - Whoa, small world indeed, good to see you on the forum. Thanks for the extra info, I kind of expected them to be a newer set, since all the MK wheels from back in the day seem to be 13's or 14's. Make sure you post some pics once you get your MK-2's on.

web777 - Beautiful car, that's the kind of ride height I'm going for - damn low but not ridiculous. I'd probably need to lose my front airdam though. Any info on the suspension set-up?

web777 - Wow! I have a brother! My trend now is to go the for mesh wheels. It is hard to find Center Lock SSR EX-C's, especially with 110 PCD.
My EX-C setup is: Front: 6.5JJ x 15, Offset +32, 205-50-15 / Rear: 7JJ x 15 Offset +25, 215-50-15.
This setup makes "Tsuraichi" (or "straight face") which means the tires are just about to the edge of the fenders and looks great from the angle.
For now, I would like to keep them for awhile.

RE Matsuda - Nice to see you again! Since SSR is out of business and you are no longer be able to buy new ones, the prices for the used SSR
wheels went up in Japan, especially on 15-inch MK series. If you have brand new 15-inch MK's, the price would be no less than $500 a piece.
Considering the condition and the price you have paid for the MK-3s, I strongly believe that you have made a good deal! Do you think?!

As to the suspension, I installed Suspension Techniques coils on my 81 RX-7. They are not as harsh as RB coils but hard enough to stick to the
tight corners. These coils lower the front about 1-1/2 inches, 2 inches at the rear and still clears 15 inch wheels with the 50 aspect ratio tires.
I have setup with Koni Adjustable dumpers. Great combination!

Here's the pic of my 3rd RHD RX-7 (Mirrors on fenders) with SSR XR-4s. Same size/offset as my GSL-SE's EX-Cs.
XR-4 is one of my favorite wheels!

You've got quite a collection of cars and wheels! Those XR-4s look very good. These kind of wheels have always been the thing to have among hardcore old school Toyota and Datsun guys, so its good seeing some Mazdas get a touch of the older Japanese style as well.

Where to find 4x110 15 wheels?

Those wheels are nice. I can't find any wheels that are still made to fit the 4x110 bolt pattern. I wish to have 15x6-7 wheels. Kosei K-1 Racing wheels are the only ones I can find anywhere.

The SSRs are nice. Anyone know where to get them?

I found ROH Snyper 15x7 4x110 +20mm offset wheels. They don't make them anymore, but I am told that a group buy of 100 wheels (25 cars) and we can have some made.

Any interest or info, please let me know.
