my new project

hey everyone i just invested in these two cars $450 for both of them and then like 300 to rent a big truck and trailer to pick them up, when i finally got them back here to monterey, ca i went thru all sorts of stupid **** finding a resting place for the two of them, my plans and hopes are to have one of them up and running and since im on a two month timeline so to say its going to be rough and expensive, the second car has the body panels i need to make the one i want clean and straight, not that any of the body panels are bad but they do have some bumps and dings, when im done i dont know what im going to do with the second car i would love to have it up and running too but its a little f'ed in the hatch area, when im done with it it'll be up for grabs for anyone that might want parts, or maybe ill part it out for ppl but anyways any advice, opinions, free parts etc would be greatly appreciated.....god im excited the one im building has a 7/78 build date

Thats a good buy, I saw those on craiglist and was tempted to buy them but I alseady have 2 7's an SA & FB. I do need some parts for my SA Are both the header panels ok or will you be using it and how about the rear bumber. I also need the front turn signal plastics. Also what color is the interior. I need a Blk dash and some door panels........

Well the list goes on but I will stop there. I am in no rush and I need to save for the parts anyway.

But good luck with your pojects and let me know when you plan on parting anything out.

Thanks

Oh Yeah more picture!!!

hey okay im getting ready to jump knee deep in this ****, mostly cause time is limited, so i have a couple questions before i get ready to do this, well let me start by explainging the plan, ok so i have the sa which im going to tear the 12a out of and plan on putting a old 13b 4 port into, with a holly fuel pump and regulator feeding either a 48 ida or delleroto 48 and out to thinking sdj header into straight thru exhaust and magnaflow muffler, so this is where questions start rising,
1-first to get the 13b in there all i have to do is "slot" the current crossmember and bolt it up right?...i think its that "simple"
2-ok next is clutch and tranny, from what i understand all rx trannies bolt up to all 12a's and 13b's...as in completely interchangable, is that true which leads me to my next question
3-what clutch to use, do i just stick with the stock 215 or do i "upgrade" to the 225? also either way does it make a difference, is one better then the other?
4-fuel system: fuel pump and regulator with either of the 2 forementioned carbs....ok from what i understand the pump is supposed to be pretty straight foward, unplug old one, remove, install new one, attach electric wiring, ok on to regulator again from what i understand you just attach it to the feed from pump, feed to carb, and return ends of the fuel hoses and your good??? also will the stock fuel lines work? or do i need to upgrade, i figure i should replace them soon as the car has been sitting for 6 yrs but the less i HAVE to spend money on the better...
5-carb, simple enough which would be better on the 4 port, stock porting (for the time being, prolly at least the next year), i know its prolly more of an opinion thing but this will be my dd for a while before i can finish it completely and turn it into a trailor queen, prolly at least another 2 years or so...
6-will the rest of the engine peices, ie: radiator, fmoc, etc be sufficient to keep the engine happy and cool, at least while the engine is stock ported??
7-my most dreaded part of the whole project, yeah thats right....ignition, because the sa's had mechanical not electric ignition, what would be the best way to set up a good ignition system, prferably the easiest to hook up, doesnt have to be the cheapest, its just that im an idiot when it comes to electronics and what not, what should i go with a 2gdfis w/tt or msd, etc???
anyway i know this is long and i really appreciate anyone willing to read thru this and help me out, i did a search on most of these questions, but i've found the more i read through the more confused i get, so if anyone know of how to's with a lot of pics that'd be awsome or like a this and that for dumbasses how to thing, thatd prolly be best, anyway as always any help is appreciated, thanks -Toor

yes

2-ok next is clutch and tranny, from what i understand all rx trannies bolt up to all 12a's and 13b's...as in completely interchangable, is that true which leads me to my next question

yes but the shifter location is different on a SA

3-what clutch to use, do i just stick with the stock 215 or do i "upgrade" to the 225? also either way does it make a difference, is one better then the other?

stocker is fine or find the 81-82 which only weight about 21lbs

4-fuel system: fuel pump and regulator with either of the 2 forementioned carbs....ok from what i understand the pump is supposed to be pretty straight foward, unplug old one, remove, install new one, attach electric wiring, ok on to regulator again from what i understand you just attach it to the feed from pump, feed to carb, and return ends of the fuel hoses and your good??? also will the stock fuel lines work? or do i need to upgrade, i figure i should replace them soon as the car has been sitting for 6 yrs but the less i HAVE to spend money on the better...

When I do install, I always replace the aging stock lines. Non-F/I lines will do but I prefer the stronger F/I lines.

5-carb, simple enough which would be better on the 4 port, stock porting (for the time being, prolly at least the next year), i know its prolly more of an opinion thing but this will be my dd for a while before i can finish it completely and turn it into a trailor queen, prolly at least another 2 years or so...

dont forget to mod the ROPR prior to installing the motor.

6-will the rest of the engine peices, ie: radiator, fmoc, etc be sufficient to keep the engine happy and cool, at least while the engine is stock ported??

get the radiator rod out and the oil cooler clean-out

7-my most dreaded part of the whole project, yeah thats right....ignition, because the sa's had mechanical not electric ignition, what would be the best way to set up a good ignition system, prferably the easiest to hook up, doesnt have to be the cheapest, its just that im an idiot when it comes to electronics and what not, what should i go with a 2gdfis w/tt or msd, etc???

thanks for the reply wacky, i think so far you have been the most helpful person on the forum for me, my only real question is about modding the ROPR, mostly just cause i dont know what it is...that and on the 81+ dizzy are there write ups explaining how to install them? like hooking all the electric up or is it swapping it up?

I dont think there is but its not hard to do upgrade to electronic ignition. ROPR mod will increase the oil pressure.

Bring it down to Socal with all the right parts, and I can get everything done in one weekedn. I havent been doing work on week nights as mid-50** is too cold for me.
