Might want to post this in the "Second Generation Specific" Forum, as it is classed as a second gen RX-7 since it's an '86

1st Generation = '79-'85
2nd Generation = '86-'92
3rd Generation = '93 and later

it must be an '85 model

The car was first registered in '86 but it may well have been manufactured earlier.

Anyway thanks for the info on getting the pics on-line

Woah, that's crazy....

it's got GSL-SE stock rims, so it's got the 4x144 bolt pattern, but it's got a 12A.... strange...

musta had a suspension swap done on it.

It's definately an '85, but I can't tell whether it's a GSL-SE with an engine downgrade to a 12A, or if it's a GSL (power windows and locks) with a suspension upgrade to GSL-SE stuff...

I would assume it's a GSL...

I like the body kit, but I can't tell which one it is... oh well..

Looks good man!

Thanks

the body kit is a Uk one made by TWR who have also produced for Aston Martin and Jaguar.

I have seen a number of these for sale in the Uk over the years. In the service handbook it shows it as a TWR version when originally supplied from the Mazda dealer.

Nice car. Looks like it is in great shape, and I like the colors (interior and exterior). I also like the body kit.
Anybody notice that it has the 79-83 dashboard? They must not have upgraded the UK model. Hmmm.
Take good care of her.
peace, Bryan.

Cody, you beat me to it. I spent too much time checking to make sure I wan't seeing things.

and I hate the raise the ugly head of concern- but you might want to check the title on this car. If it is titled as an 86 model, then I would be very suspicious of vin swap.

Hehe..

I wonder what that means for mine.....

My title says:

Vin - JM1FB331XE0_ _ _ _ _ _
Year - 84
Make - Mazd
Model/Body - CP / R7A

So, instead of a 1984 Mazda Rx-7, I guess I have a 1984 Mazd R7A.

Now I have to join an R7A club. Damn it.

That's actually a 79-80 dashboard and a wheel swap, not suspension. Only North America got 4x110 bolt pattern on the first gens.

It can't be a '79 Dash board, at least not a US model '79 Dashboard, 'cause the center console part on my '79's stock dashboard is all one piece... I'd attach a picture and demonstrate, but I can't...

I think '79 is the only dashboard that matches a '79... one of the few things that aren't the same in '79/'80's?

Well, its doubtful that it has anything to do with a US dash......since he's in europe or something.

It's a stock UK spec RX-7 1985 model

There were no 13B engined cars outside North America. What the UK got was the equivalent to the gsl-se with a upgraded 12A producing 115hp. As it was the end of the line there were minor changes between batches.

The UK and other rhd models did not get the dash upgrade of the US models
l
The model was still being sold in the UK after the FC was on sale in USA. Its quite possible a 1985 model was sold and registered in 1986.

By that time the FB was very difficult to sell as it was considered outdated and underperforming so RX-7s hung around Mazda dealers unsold for months.

TWR produced some hot race RX-7s in 1979-81.They made their money from add-ons to street cars, front and back spoilers, wheels, etc plus a turbo kit for the RX-7 and 626 which had the reputation of being unreliable.

The add-ons continued to be sold at a reduced price after TWR pulled out from racing. The main go faster parts were the TWR badges which came with the spoilers!

Have looked at the photos more closely. I am not totally convinced its a TWR. The rear spoiler is vagually the right shape but from memory the sides should attach yo the body longer. The car appear to have side skirts not usually on the TWR model. I can not see the front clearly, a new picture would help.

I will post more pictures next weekend or sooner if I can.

Most of the body kit has TWR moulded into it. I will check the rear spoiler later today.

It has been well looked after and has only covered 75k miles with a full history. It has just had a full stainless exhaust from Rototechnics.

The TWR RX-7 came with 24 spoke 6J alloy wheels, a front spoiler almost FC in apperance, a curved rear wing as many modern cars, wheelarch trims- a fashion item on many 1980s RXs, a Nardi stle steering wheel with a TWR boss, and a full set of TWR badges and decals. options included a turbo kit [blow thru Weber] and a set of TWR embossed race seats with harness. For serious people there was a full race cage. It was possible to buy individual parts if you were on a restricted budget.

...what Paul said.

The SE was a North America only model, and only North America got what we call the 84-85 dash in those years.
