My -SE gets 17 MPG and I redline it every time I get behind the wheel. I have Racing Beat exhaust, so that helps. I havent done any "freeway only" tests or anything, so 17 is what I get with mixed freeway and highway driving.

how hard/expensive is it to install a turbo in a 12a? should i w/o the turbo rotors (i'm assuming they have less of a compression ratio) -- sorry this is completely unrelated but i'm bored.

My wallets is hurtin, as I just installe a RB intake, Holley carb., and RB header on my 79 gs.

I used to get around 20 mpg or better.

I just gassed up after the install and is was down to 10.5 mpg.

on my red1983 GS? I drove to Vegas and back on I-15 and got 32 MPG. Later went to Sevenstock talked to the Japanese engineers and they did not believe me LOL! My 1984 babyrex(no major mods) only gets about 24 though and about 17 up Palomar mountain grades But OMG what fun!!

Yeah man rotaries forever and ever and ever and ever etc etc ad infinitum et nauseum

The last time that I filled my tank, I got 280 miles on the tank.

That's just over 17mpg, if my calculations are correct. '85s had a 16.4 gallon gas tank, right?

Of course, I was driving like a grandmother: 5-10 mph over the speed limit, rarely going past 4000 rpm, etc., etc.

Anyways, if I stand on the gas, I can watch my gas guage drop; so, I guess that can give you an idea of how my car is when it is driven like it is built to be.

Stating the obvious here. The reason why the rotary never caught on is because fuel mileage sucks and enviornmnetal/emmissions is tough to overcome. Buy a Honda if want MPG. The rotary is all about go fast....

I get 19mpg in my F-250 diesel on the highway.....

Wow... I got 21 mpg on my first tank, and that's with highway/city mixed. And I ran that first tank fairly hard, too. RB exhaust with no cat and a removed air pump is all I have. I'd say 21 mpg is pretty damn good if you ask me. My Jeep would get 11-15 mpg, so the extra mpg is sort of a relief for my parents.

As a follow-up (almost a year later), I can state that I routinely get 19mpg City and about 21 Highway in my 84SE.

Signature line says my mods, but I tend to use the cruise control a lot, even in town, and am religious about maintenance. Check your oil every fill-up, check your tires every month, and rotate those suckers, HTH,

I routinely get 350 miles or better on a tank from my 84 and 85 GSLs (365 is my personal best, reached twice and I know I can get more). That works out to about 24 miles per gallon, which I routinely calculate at fill ups. What's this about rotaries being bad on gas?
