my hot transmission

my hot transmission

is it a normal thing for the shifter in the 85 to get very hott or am i burning up the clutch.

Even if you were hurting the clutch, I doubt you'd feel it in the shifter. Look at a picture of the transmission sometime. The shifter is hanging off the ***-end of the tranny, even further back than the driveshaft yoke. It doesn't even share oil with the transmission in 81-85 models.

It's more likely that you're missing some exhaust sheilding or it's just hot from being in the sun.

I know before i had a boot or anything, mine would feel warm, but not hot. Ive got all my shields and all.

Yeah it's perfectly normal for the tranny to get warm. After several miles of hard driving I think I could probably burn myself on it. But check and make sure it has the proper amount of fluid in it and the fluid is a nice clean "honey color" (similar to motor oil) Or change it all together it's not expensive. Takes 2 quarts I think

Go brent yea mine will and has burned me but i'm not complaining cause in the winter it will be like a heater coil. but i do need to change my tranny fluid sometime it kindof has a black color with some metal color in it.
