my door/paint experiment...

the bugrandy in my GSL-SE is just scaring me, so im painting the interior....

ripped off the door panels today, fixed up the power windows not working right, then decided i may aswell get started on painting over some parts.

i used SEM flexible vinyl paint. pic is kinda bad, but i'll get better ones when they are back on the car...

pretty easy, maybe 5 minutes undoing the screws in the door, and another few hours prepping and painting.

and no they are not done. this paint works on carpet too, however i plan to replace that with stereo carpet.

I like the SEM paint. Prep is the key to getting it to last and I usually do 2 coats. It's hard to tell from your pic, what is the color? It almost looks like a Black Cherry.

2 coats? all vinyl paints ive used suggest something like 8 or more.... 2 wouldnt stick very long.

i did the interior of my supra 3 years ago and its still holding up strong. view the pic below

that pic i showed yesterday really sucks. i will get some more once i have more done. the color is actually black, but that was with only a few coats, just getting things in motion! i'd like to paint all the vinyl in the Rx7 black and try to find some grey/black seats in good shape, and i'll be rockin'

my first Rx7 had the black/grey interior and i must say it was one of my all time fav interiors of any car i've owned.

I restored a 300 ZX last year. Changed the interior color from the tan/gold to a med. gray. 2 coats of the SEM paint, with a touch up gun, was all it took. This was the paint and not the dye.

The gray 1st gen interior is my favorite also. I even prefer the brown over the red. Guess I'm getting too old for the whorehouse red.
