My dome light has a problem...Do you have the answer?
Electrically my dome/interior light works fine. Ascetically it has an issue: the clear plastic cover will never stay on it. Is this just a personal problem or something common? It drives me nuts. Every time I go over the smallest bump it falls down. I've tried gluing it but it doesn't seem to last long. I don't want to use epoxy or something if I need to change the bulb. Anyone else had this issue and fixed it?

I had it before. What I did is took a small sheet of cardboard from what you would find as the cover of legos, model planes, etc... some thick sheet of paper basically. I used that and folded it over once, and slid that on the side of the light cover and it held it just fine.
I have been over tons of bumps (the roads here are quite bad) and it has never fell down. Use a small piece so it is not noticeable.

simple solution, replace it with a new cover. you can get it from www.mazdatrix.com or from blackdragon or buy one here on the forum. the reason it wont stay is that the mounting tabs have snapped off. buy a new one and it will somve the problem.

I stuck a couple of small pieces of adhesive backed foam tape to one side of the cover. This applied extra pressure against the side that has the tabs on it. Hopefully you'll understand what I mean by this description. Worked great.

The problem with the plastic dome lens is that the little tab that holds it in place gets very brittle as it ages and then it breaks off. I had two like that. At the Pick n Pull I found another FB dome lens, but the tab was also broken on it. So I cut off a small piece of the plastic and filed it into the right tab shape and glued it in place with crazy glue. I made the tab a little wider than the broken piece so that it would have more contact area to glue against the lens. By using the same kind of lens I was sure that the plastics had the same composition and would glue together.
Only took me about 15 minutes to make 2 with a Dreml tool and glue them and then install. Lots of plastic left over for future tab failures, so I just chucked it into the console pocket.
The key is to find another broken FB dome lens so that you have exactly the same kind of plastic being glued together. Different plastics often fail to bond.

Thanks guys. I think I'll try some of that foam tape. I don't see just the cover listed in black dragon, but you can buy the whole thing for $189.95.....Hopefully the tape works otherwise I guess we'll start trying the other solutions listed.
On another note, I should be ready for autocross on the 15th, though I still need to register.
Thanks again.

I know it's an old thread, but somebody gave me the solution recentlly
Glue some Neodymium magnets to the dome and to the brackets that
hold it. Real Strong, and removable.

I just use some scissors and cut 2 thin pieces of Duct tape (~1/8" tall) and put it on the very top edges of the lens. It's thick enough to wedge the lens in place and is easily removable and is not visible...unless you pull the lens off. In over 15 years, I have only had to replace the tape once...and that was my choice....
