Is my clutch master cylinder bad?
Is my clutch master cylinder bad?
1985 GSL-SE, Pretty much stock.
The other day my clutch didn't spring right back up like it usually does. It stayed down and I was pretty much stuck in the gear that I was in.
I was able to get her home, and did some research. Seemed like either the clutch master cylinder or the clutch slave cylinder. I thought from my research that I'd find one of these to be leaking fluid or that there would be a fluid leak somewhere else. I found none. The fluid level is full. And everything seems to be bone dry.
The kicker is now everything thing is working fine. Could it be that the clutch master cylinder was stuck and after sitting for a while it freed itself.
What color shold the fluid be, it does look kind of dirty.
Thanks.

the fluid should be clear. not too likely that its something other than clutch hydraulics. i would rebuild or replace both the slave and the master as well as replace the clutch hose.
Pull back the boot on the clutch slave and see if there is any evidence of leakage. Also inspect the inside of the firewall where the Clutch Master bolts to and see if there is any signs of leakage/rust.
