Angry My Car Won't Start Again :| !!?!?!!?!??

Hey guys, I'm new to all this RX-7 stuff and I need a bit of help. I bought a '79 RX-7 from my buddy about a month ago (for $200) that was missing a few parts, but he promised me it ran. I put all the needed parts into it ($250), turned the key and it started up perfectly (with a little smoke, but that cleared up after about 5 minutes). I thought; "Great!! A car that runs for $450 (canadian dollars)..."

After that it started fine every time without smoking. I replaced the plugs 'cause they were fouled really bad, and turned the key and it started, but then it ran out of gas.

Me being the "highly intelligent" person that I am continued to try to start it until the battery almost died (I stopped when a friend suggested it might be out of gas). So I filled the tank up 2 days later and tried to start it up, but no success. It won't start again (I've tried many times). It's not flooded, it just won't start. I don't think it's getting gas...

Is there anything that I've done to the car by trying to start it without gas, or is it just a vapour lock? Or is it something else that has happed by coincidence just when my car ran out of gas?

Help!!!

Are you able to pull off the fuel line going to carb and turn key to see if gas is pumping out, if not , start working your way back to the tank, check fuel filter, is pump comming on, are the lines stopped up in the gas tank, (mine were, had to pull tank to clear, no biggie), i hope any of this helps,,,,later........

If the carb is not getting any gas, try pouring a little directly into the carb manually and try starting it. If it starts, you have a fuel problem. It might be the electronic fuel pump located in the rear of your car. I had to replace mine, for around $200.

I tried putting gas down the carb, but it still wouldn't start... Go figure!? I'll try disconnecting the fuel line next time I see the car (it's at my friend's garage right now and I can't get in to see it on the weekends).

Thanks for all your help!

Clean the plugs, and squirt MMO into the plug holes. Make sure your getting fuel to the carb, your fuel filter might be clogged, especially since you ran it out of gas!

here is what I would do.
Sit back have a beer and think what has changed since the last time I had it running. You said that you turned the car over alot since the last time maybe you blew a fuse, this sometimes are affected by age. After this check to see if the fuel pump comes on. To do this pull out the cargo box behind the drivers seat and listen while you turn on the key. It should turn on even for a little bit to get the fuel into the carb. If this doesn't work check to see that the fuel relay is still on under the dash above the steering column. Then the last but the first thing to check is that the little black wire is hooked up to the carb. It is the sensor that triggers the fuel pump.

If this is not the problem then you don't have spark, check that the plug wires are hooked up correctly, maybe pull out a plug to see if you have spark and go from there.

Wheeew.

Hey paul, how's it going... Any way, I'll try all this stuff day after tomorrow and let you guys all know how it went... especially the beer part... I have to definitely check that sensor wire as it may have been bumped when I was messing around with the exhaust...

Thanks a lot for all your guys' help!!
