My car is very annoying

First, thanks to all the guys who helped me, I finally got my car running right, but now there is a short or something associated with the lights. I have searched, but found no answers. When the car is running no matter what RPM, I can turn on the lights and it brings down the RPM's about two notches, or 200 RPM's. Also, the beeper for when you leave your lights on and open the door is always going off. I think that they are interelated. I have cleaned the grounds coming off of the negative on the battery and the grounds for the lights and these did not make any difference. I have checked the resistance of the fusible links and they seemed alright.

Could you help me?

fuse possibly...or it could be that there is a bad ground for the lights...or maybe you just have some corroded...its hard to say for sure...trace the wires from the lights and look for visible damage to the wires or connectors themselves...

Hmm I have that problem intermittently.. I haven't had a chance to try and track it down yet..

The warning beeper thing intermittently works... usually when I leave the lights on by accident, it doesnt work... but when i remember, it goes off.. smart.

But yeah lights on and the rpm drop a bit and it becomes a little twitchy... would love some insight.

He means the plunger switch in the door frame that the door pushes closed when the door is closed.

Hmm regarding my random warning beeper isnt to do with my door switch, as the overhead light works fine when set to door mode...

Regarding the drop in RPM when you turn the lights on, just wondering is your car fuel injected, and if so, what ECU... perhaps the ECU doesnt have voltage compensation for the injectors.... when you turn the lights on, perhaps what happens is less current makes it to the fuel pump, thus lowering fuel pressure... so the engine wont run as well, perhaps a bit leaner - mine does this.

I might try running some dedicated quality cable to the fuel pump. My guess with the headlight beepers... maybe something loose in the dash, or headlight wiring... need to really check it all heh

85 GSs are usually carbureted.

I checked the door plunger, but it also seemed okay. My car is a carbureted 12a. I think the RPM problem is a bad ground, because power is taken away from the battery when it is not grounded properly, so it would not spark as hot. I checked the ground to the frame, the ground to the motor, and the ground for the headlights by the headlight retractor motor. Do you guys know of any other grounds for the headlight wiring

You should check all grounds anyway, as this can create a hell of a lot of problems.

I've been looking through the manual and it doesn't seem to cover those warning beeper things.. I have had problems with contacts inside the combination switch on the steering collumn... you could try opening this up and cleaning all the contacts (ie. my high beams would not turn on, carbon had built up on a contact in here, once i cleaned it, they worked), so perhaps theres a contact in here that connects to the warning beeper...

Good luck!

PS. I guess another place to look would be the back of the main instrument panel and checking solder joints etc. I haven't been able to remove this before heh..

Sounds like you are running on just the alternator without the battery. Have you had the alternator out to be checked?

When the voltage gets too low the electronics will act up.

The guage in the car says it is charging at around 12 at idle and around 14 when it's choked, but I will check it anyway.

It wouldn't hurt running a line between the alternater positive output and the battery + terminal... Something to take ~50-80 amps depending on your alternators output. I found I had a 4 volt difference here.

I checked the altenator with a voltmeter and it was putting out 14 volts so I don't think it is that, This rpm problem really has me confused?

Try checking the voltage difference between the altnernator and the battery, by placing one prong onto the alternator + output and one on the battery + output. This should tell you the voltage difference and show any drop here.

Also check the fusible links and all the connections there. Check for corrosion and replace any wires if necessary.

I checked the voltage difference when I checked the altenator and there was no drop. There is some corrosion in the fusible links box. I tried to clean it off, but I didn't get to far. Do you know where I can buy some good fusible links?

I don't know where you can get fusible links... they are probably fine. I havent had a chance to look at my car yet, however! Now I do. I'm going to have a look at the headlights and beeper now, so hopefully I will be back with some news soon.
