my car starts!!!!!!

after clogging up the forum with not one, but two whole "my car wont start" threads, replacing, cap, rotor, plugs and finally having it towed to the shop....

guess what.

it was flooded. the very first thing that crossed my mind. the vey first thing i tried to fix.

well, obviously i suck at "taking out the pluugs and cleaning them.

gahh.

do you have the stock carbs, do they have a "automatic" choke? If so that's probadly your problem, i don't know how many cars I have seen that the "automatic" choke diddn't work right or just plain stuck, I would recommend you go to a manual choke. The manual choke is simply just one less thing to go wrong.

I just cleaned my plugs the other day. They were way way fouled.

For some reason my choke doesn't work right (manual). When I pull it out, the car loses power and the rpms go down significantly.

my choke works fine... its all originaL.

i just didnt realize how it worked... i thought the choke sprayed MORE fuel into the engine, and i assumed that would just make it worse.

The choke doesnt spray anything. Its simply a "flapper valve" that covers the primary barrels of the carb when you pull the ****. That way, the engine sucks in more fuel than air, causing a rich condition, and making cold starting easier.

If, when I use my choke, the car loses rpms and power, does that mean I am running rich?

technically it doesn't spray anything, but it also opens the throttle too, allowing more fuel in and increasing the richness. so it is still feeding more gas otherwise it wouldn't rev higher.

Smile444, yes, when you use your choke, it decreases air intake, which increases the fuel precentage, therefore making your car run rich. Which inturn makes your car run poorly!
