Unhappy My Car Is Dying, Almost Dead, Need Assistance Badly

HELP ME. MY BABY IS DYING Big problems. Going to work smoke started coming out of my exhaust, like a grayish smoke. I made it to my exit and stopped at a light, and she just died, turned off. A whole bunch of smoke came from under my hood, like there was a fire. (but there was not, good) My cars temperture shot all the way up to hot, in like two seconds. I checked the oil and coolant levels, they were fine. I realized a belt broke off and was missing, (i think the one for air conditioning). The car finally cooled off, but would not start. Car got towed to a mechanic shop. He told me something about Compression specifications. That the minimum compression pressure should be 85 psi (6.0 kg/cm). Some stuff like that and mine was bad. His conclusion is i need new engine, a re-built or used. This is killing me. Does any of this sound right. I have no clue HELP ME. MY BABY IS DYING.

Sounds like you lost the belt for the water pump and overheated the engine.

Overheating is the #1 cause of rotary engine failure. Sounds VERY legit. That is the way it usually happens. Chances are that if you checked the spark plugs, they would be wet with coolant from blown water seals. Yep. Sounds like an engine to me. If it hit the top of the guage it is a gonner.

The second you had smoke come from your exhaust (or the second you smelled the coolant burning) you should have pulled over..... I mean if it were me I would have kicked *** and taken names to get on the shoulder. Then I woulda just hit the clutch turned it off and coasted to a stop.

Next time smoke billows from your exhuast take note of your gauges, they can be useful sometimes

Not much you can do now.....

Although on a scale of 1-10 on how fried your motor is now.....

Sorry I cant be more helpful, and I know that awful feeling you get when your car dies.... but there are ways to prevent this, unless your Temp sensor was bad, and didnt read right for awhile, but the smoke was the seals blowing and probably dumping coolant into your engine, thus you cant start a coolant filled engine. You should have at least smelled something or heard something. Usually when a belt goes, you will know it. And if an engine is overheating you can smell it. So in retrospect your engine was toast as soon as the smoke started leaving your exhaust.

You will need to do one of two things.... get a new engine, or sell the car as a parts car. I would get a new engine, its not going to be cheap.... although I know a place around here that has a 12A, in need of a rebuild though... so you may just wanna work with what you have

DO NOT try starting your car even if you get a new belt, and good luck...

BTW, make it a habit to constantly monitor your gauges, I do, its just a good idea in a 20+ year old car....
