My Brand New 83 GSL

So its not exactly brand new, but probally as close as it gets. I started out by looking at a bright red Lotus Esprit Turbo, and that car rocked! I was going to get it (yes even at the cost of cheating on rotary's), but unfortunately I havent had credit long enough for a $30,000 loan.

So my next thought was a Porsche 911SC. I started looking and came across this irrisistable FB. After a drive and serious examination I took it for $5500. I know some will say thats a lot for an FB but totally worth it for me! Mechanically sound, 13B Weber 48IDA, 1500 miles on a properly broken in rebuild, carbon seals, large streetport, balanced, Eibach springs, Koni shocks, Poly Motor mounts, Paint looks perfect from about 10 ft. ect... I was impressed that even after a solid minute of doughnuts it still kept the rock solid idle.

I just wanted an open top exotic for summer, I think all I need is the Mariah rear hatch, and Ill have the best of both worlds! Plus I can actually insure this one hahah.

Looks nice, what rear wing is that?

Welcome back to the darkside maybe?

I looked at an esprit before the 7 and i just couldnt justify (or afford) 20k for a 25 year old car in ok condition.

I don't think that price is out of line at all. If you look what it would take to get a shell and build it up, you would be well over that (ask me how I know).
Just a basic driving car is $2K and typically needs $1k to get it road worthy. I think you got a good and fair deal.

I have no idea which wing it is, I dont know if Ive seen another with it? Id guess its from a 2nd gen from looking at it.

$20,000 for an only ok Esprit is definately a lot, especially if your going to have to perform major service soon after. The one I looked at was in just about perfect shape, for 27k. After driving it I had an ear to ear grin that lasted till... well, Im still smiling thinking about it. Also the Lotus can get pretty good milage, and is very reliable if well taken care of. The opposite is also true.

I think once your in the darkside you wont want to go back. I pulled the motor out of my other 83, and thought realisticly I wont have my REW in it till deep into summer. So thats what made me look for something relatively exotic/nice. This is a much better cannidate for the REW(Ill go into detail in a later thread) Plus I can stay rotary in the mean time.

And your definately right Scott, a shop to do everything to this car would be much much more, like $15,000. I could have paid like $8k and still been as happy I could just see someone on the forum saying thats a lot, but if the buyer and seller are both happy its all around a good deal.
