Question My 84 gslse has a pulse

Short story:
My car has a pulse. It's fuel injected, when I let off the gas it drops to about 1000rpm then bounces up to 1500 rpm then down and continually does it....sounds like it has a pulse. The long story below:

I cleaned my engine bay 2 days ago then the car wouldn't start. It was just flooded. During the trboule shooting process we noticed that the Distributer was full of carbon dust and the center pin broken. So I replaced the rotor and the cap. Also while trying to start the car my friends dad fired A little ether into the car.

I just did the standard de-flood process for the car after all that and it started fine. However once I got off the highway and slowed down I noticed the car had a pulse when I let off the gas.

Any ideas? I'm too broke to bring it to a mechanic right now.

Look in the fAQ section. There are multiple links for this problem next to the question.

Definitely look into the tps. This kid I know had the same thing with his 88' (I know fc's) and his pulsed the same as yours. Mine actually pulsed like 1500-3000.

Yup TSP either needs adjustment or it needs replacment. These can be found on every stock Nikki carb FYI.

Brandon, this is a GSL-Se which means it is fuel injected not carbureted.

And the carbureted models hardly ever malfunction and if they do they do not create the same symptons as the fuel injection does.

I had this happen to an early model Maxima after cleaning the engine. I found water in the connector to the TPS (throttle position sensor). Cleaned it out and I was good again...

Also check and see if the linkage is binding on the throttle body. After it has reached operating temp push down on the linkage that is on the side closest to the the TPS and see if the idle returns to normal.

I greased the linkage that was getting caught a bit....Water in the sensor could be it.

The linkage on the SE's have a tendency to bind.
As you continue to own the car you will find out that the Se injection also has a mind
of it's own.

Yes i know that this is an SE. I have an SE and 2 GS's when my SE had a TPS issue. i used the tps off of an old carb. The TPS is the same but you have to remove the sensor from the carb bracket and install it into to the Se one. It worked i had no more pulse in the low RPM's. FYI club forum.
