KS My 83 died yesterday in Kansas

Locked up the motor starting it in the parking lot at work. Had been running flawlessly up to the fatal moment. Turned the key, it turned over and caught, then went "Clunk" and died. Motor is locked up solid.

Tried pushing it and catching it in gear, but as soon as I let out the clutch the rear wheels just locked up. I am going to pull the starter on the outside chance that the pinion gear maybe is jammed in the flywheel, but I have little hope. Just finsihed reupholstering the seats, and have the fabric to redo the back. I don't think I am up for an engine swap.

I had it towed home today. Anyone looking for a cheap project car?

Bummer. It doesn't sound good but you never know. Do a swap if you can find a cheap engine, it's worth a days work.

pull the plugs, fan, and shroud and get a breaker bar with a 19mm socket and try and turn the engine over by hand to verify that it is in fact locked. i've never seen an engine lock by trying to start the sucker. maybe if you were completely out of oil... maybe

Yeah I pulled 2 of the plugs in the parking lot yesterday, and it did not help, but I did not have a big breaker bar with me. I was feeling kinda sick today, so I did not mess with it after it came home.

Me either, until last year at an auto x event, 3rd run I go to start the car and sure enough it was locked. I wouldn't believe it, so I started taking apart the car (just a lil bit ) and yup stuck completley.

I just pulled the plugs and put the car in 5th gear and tried rocking it back and forth, no help. Motor seems locked up. I had pulled the fan and put a breaker bar on the harmonic balance pulley and can't budge it in either direction.

The car has some rot under the rear wheel wells, so I am not really interested in putting a new motor in it.

Has Racing beat springs, KYB shocks and struts (both 2 years old). Newly reupholstered seats. We were starting a red to black interior conversion. Outer body in pretty good condition, a few bits of surface rust popping up. Pictures available.

Make me an offer. Homes association won't let it sit here very long, and I have a line on another 1st gen to replace her. I'd just like to see it go to a good home.

Just posted pictures here

http://picasaweb.google.com/kcmichaelb/Rx7

If anyone wants it get to me quick. It will have to be out of the driveway within the week, and I would hate to see it go to the crusher.

Also has new evaporator core (this summer) Black dash cover, a nice 2 1/4 custom exhaust with high flow magnaflow Cat and muffler. Car was running so great, I can't believe the motor just locked up that way. Oh well, it is a 25 year old engine I guess.

He got it for less than the exhaust and suspension mods I put in it, not counting the brand new seats and a lot of other goodies.
