Unhappy My 3rd 7 but Im still a rookie .... might need help.

I have read every single thread and message on this website, lots of useful info. My 83 is running rough, happened when I started it, idles is steady (almost) but no power and sounds like its missing. I thought I heard a 'clunk' when I first started it. Should I bother checking in my oil pan for parts? (like an apex seal) My next item is going to replace every single vacuum line. Timing on both T and L is right on the mark. I know this is extremely ambiguous but, any suggestions? This was a 'welcome home' gift when I got back from Iraq a few months ago. I sold #2 because I didnt want my wife to have to deal with it in case I didnt make it home.

checking the pan wont do any good. unless the oil pump drive chain breaks, there wont be any broken pieces in the oil pan. apex seal usually get blown out the exhaust. pull one plug at a time(front then rear) and check the compression pulses. that will tell u if it has lost an apex seal.
