My 12a TBI Turbo Project is Taking shape
I have my 1985 12a that is begining to take place i got my fuel injection system from Robert at Rotaryshack and it looks awsome i also got my rear end from him as well although it hasnt gone to plan some fabrication has taken place but its starting to look great. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...arparts047.jpg
this is the pic of the motor which was built by my brother actually it was first build by atkins but i decided to have my brother take a look at it and he fix some of the mishaps that it came with like a poor quality front housing better oil pressure reg ect. we also added a moroso baffle oil pan. the rear end wasnt sitting correct the welding was great just didnt look correct the third member was pointing to the heavens and one side was sticking out of the car more than the other so it required some fabrication which was cutting the links , wats ect. to make them adjustable in order to make it fit properly although is not yet completed cause we started the cutting and welding yesterday it should be done today. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...arparts044.jpg
here is the way we cut and welded the links in order to work. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...arparts048.jpg
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...arparts049.jpg
we also had a mishap with the bell housing i recieved the bell housing supposed to be from an rpu to allow for me to use the existing starter and clutch with the t2 transmission but as you can see on this pic http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...arparts029.jpg this bell housing is not from a rotary. I attached a side by side pic so you can see the difference between both http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...arparts034.jpg any ways i decided to keep the bell housing from the t2 and get a different fly wheel and clutch as well as the starter that way i wont have any issues with this once all the mechanical is completed we are going to head into putting a new sump gas tank that i also got from robert and put the microtec lt8-s on and complete the job . i have to say this been a long process full of stress and mishaps but at the end it should be worth it , i will be running a t-66 turbo with a fmic and a hks exaust manifold also hks westegate and gredy r bov with this set up im looking to run about 500 rwhp but its capable or running 550 with about 18 lbs of boost. i cant wait to get it on the road. i will post the changes as they go . i hope you all enjoy the thread and all the props goes to robert at rotary shack and my brother moses who is tha man.

It's looking good man. You're doing two things that I havent gotten to do yet with my turbo car, go FI, and upgrade the transmission/rearend. I've got zero money, and I'm still in the tuning phase with my blowthrough setup, but maybe one day. Best of luck to you!
looking good alex!!im wondering what the hell that bellhoising is from?! anybody? here is the pic.. the one in question is on the right, to the left you have a turbo 2 bellhousing

I take it the nice shiney hubs sticking out of the housing are a set of beeier axles. Care to share the details. I didn't look to see if that was a stock rearend or not.

the rear end has race axles drilled to se bolt pattern so his panasports bolt right up, and a lsd unit installed, along with adjustable links to fine tune the rear suspension..

I'm also intersted in hub to hub width and would like to find a rear end that has the disc brakes with the drum brake e-brake set up.
i got the rear housing from a 89 mustang, and its stock length, so you dont need to buy custom length aftermarket axles.. the rear end is approx 3-4" longer than the factory rx7 rear end

the rear end uses 26 1/4 inch axels and it only stick out about 1/2 of and inch right now with only the wheels once the breaks go on it will stick out further, the axels bolt patter is acutally 4x110 reason being is that i pick some panasport prior to deciding to go with the ford end so i didnt want to get rid of them so i order them with the 110 bolt pattern. as far as the fitment is not that complicated once you figure out what the hell needs to be done. some fabrication will be needed even if you get it already build for the rx. i will post more pics tomorrow once i get more pics the lsd is ford racing and and the gears are 411. the injectors are 1000 cc injectors. im also running a sump tank that a purchased from robert. among many other things i got from roberto the cheeze eating mexican. now to compensate for the wheels sticking out i will be putting fender flares. they are cheaper than a wide body and to me they look as good. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...exdone_002.jpg

as far as the breaks that came with the rear end originally were drum brakes but if you go to bears brakes they make a kit to this end with disk and e brake as well now im not saying they are cheap but they make them, the cost for them is 750 which is not that bad considering the upgrades available out there for the fb. i also posted a few more pics for your enjoyment.

More pics of that beautiful intake please. I'm running the wrap around intake and Mikuni on the bp and have thought about turboing it using that intake, if that's possible, along with FI and Megasquirt.

to anwer your question yes and yes, although the sidedraft style tbi only comes with 2 injectors fabrication for 2 more will be require. if you are going tbi i would reccomend going like mine here downdraft style to avoild all the extra fab require but if short of cash of course go with the side style as far as megasquirt i can really give you an opinion on that since i don't run one i don't much about them i personally am running a microtec lt8-s with mine. now on the pics i posted here one thing is change that is the plenum is now like a t oppose to the one on this pic is straight reason being is because of my ic location wouldnt allow to run that plenum so the new plenum is the one on the first page on the engine.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...llICfront2.jpg now my ic is monuted just like on this pic which i borrow from z-beater sorry z for stealing your pics , anyways that is the way i put my ic so running the plenum on the t form was much better.

Alex, that is a killer set up! Can't wait to see it done. I wondered what happened to you since you 've been gone for a while.
Anyways, thumbs up on the project. Glad things are moving along!

i got my breaks today from bears and they look great so this will complete the rear end job ill get those on tomorrow and i ll post pics although i will have to fab some bracket to hold brake lines and i will have to rig something up because the existing brake lines are smaller than this i will need to get a fitting to conect them. I will also have to come up with a way to conect the existing e brake cables to this new calipers since they are different.
