A must have mod for us TALL guys!!!

Probably one of the most user friendly mods I've made to my car yet....

Ever since I got my car, I've only had one complaint driving it. I would always get my hand stuck between the steering wheel and my right knee (I'm 6'3")... Well, I put on a Momo Race steering wheel today... MUCH BETTER!!!! Nicer feel to it, better looking, and slightly smaller, so I have more room for my gargantuan legs!

I stuck a 330 mm $50 wheel from Kragens on my GSL 'cause the wheel is too close to the door grab. I'll remove the door grab when I get a chance. I'm also going to have a good upholstery guy take 3/4 - 1 " out of the back half of the seat. My GS has good clearance already.

The steering wheel ain't where this tall guy has problems... it's the STEERING COLUMN! Argh! My right knee tries to reside where the ignition lock cylinder is when I go to brake.

The headroom thingy is a bad one too... but that can be fixed with a sheetmetal racing seat. One of those things I gotta do this year.

The sunroof never even comes close to my head, it's the side of the roof where the upholstery and the sunroof sill are that is the problem. That's another really nice thing about that '80, it had a thin vinyl headliner (instead of thick cardboard-backed peach fuzz) and the seats were about an inch lower due to the lack of a height adjuster. Too bad the left side bolsters were basically destroyed due to age and the incredible gripability of race tires.

I just pulled the door grab out. Cheaper than any steering wheel and it did the trick. My left knee was getting wedged between the wheel and the grab when I let out the clutch. Head room isn't a problem even with the metal sunroof; the exception being when I'm wearing a helmet, but then I'm hitting the roof not the sunroof.

what kinda M stering wheel was it bro? I'm 6.3 and I'm tired of looking like a circus bear everytime I get out, or in myself.. not to mention when I take those long trips the leg shuffle we tall freaks do to stay somewhat comfortable.. I Luv my FB don't get me wrong, but the fine engineers that designed my little girl didn't think about a giant from this side of the seas when they built her... hehe

you can also bolt your seat directly to the floor, rather than on the rails..

How? do I need to drill new holes, or is it fairly straightforward?

the easist way would probably be to build small extensions to bolt it down where you want them. basicall a rod on both sides that bolts to the holes that are already in the floor and to the seat (where ever in the rod to place your seat where you want it)

I guess I'll take out the seat on the 85GSL and see if I can figure a way to lower it, even if I have to make it non-adjustable.
