Muffler buzzing?

I have a RB-like replacement muffler on my 83..
Ive checked multiple times for loose hangers and whatnot.. but between 5000-7000RPM the muffler gives off an awful buzzing sound.. Ive put up with it over this summer.. but for the spring I'd want the car to actually sound good.
I've considered just replacing with a genuine RB muffler.. but I really like the sporty tone I get out of this muffler.. minus the buzz
I imagine because it might be thinner piping... Is there any way to counter this?
What if i wrapped the over axle pipe?
I have no idea.. Maybe someone on here has run into a similar problem
Thanks!

I would guess you either have a heat shield that is loose, or the insides of the muffler are starting to break down from the intense heat. Even if it is a brand new muffler, some of the cheaper knock off brands just can't take the heat. They may only last for a couple of months before the insides burn out of them.
Here is what I would do. Warm the car up to operating temperature. Shut it off. Get the car up on jack stands, and start it again. Have a friend take it up to the rattle zone, 5-7k, while you are under the car. Then you can determine where the noise is coming from. If it is a heat shield or some other miscellaneous part, then secure it to stop the rattling. If it is indeed the muffler then start looking into a replacement for it.

Hmm.. thanks for the tips.
I'll have to wait till spring to do this though..
It is currently blowing a nice -51 celcius windchill outside
Rx-7 is tucked in to my cozy garage till the weather is bearable
Who wants to move to Canada?
