I think it is a shitload of weight redux but with exhaust, carb, ignition, weight redux and a **** load of more weight redux it can be done. I was actually going to attempt this but got a 13 instead. And when i say a shitload of weight redux i mean a shitload! and you will probably only cut a 13.999. Good luck!

By my calculations, if the car weighs 1500lbs + my 180lbs, I only need 130hp at the flywheel to reach 13.9 if I'm powershifting.

I hear you can get 150hp out of the 12a without porting, so 130 should be easy with an uber-unrestrictive exhaust, intake, removal of as many belt-driven accessories as possible, and a few other things.

Hell, if it did have 150hp, if I could get it down to 1300lbs, it would do 12s! hahaha I dont see that happening though. It would be hella cool tho

How light do you think is possible with like.. NOTHING in the car, sawzalled out floorboards, plexiglass windows, and not a single non-required part on the car, lightweight EVERYTHING?

Hey man I heard that if you add an APC sticker you will instantaneously gain 50 extra HP and not add any weight at all. If you wanna go all the way with the power, paint the car red and yellow, but it's gotta be red AND yellow, or else you won't gain as much power. Oh yeah uh both Jenny Craig and Subway called, they wanna know your secret, lol.

Whoa, let me get this straight. You want to saw out the floorboards and compromise unibody integrity in an effort to make your stock 12A fast?

Read: BEATER CAR

This thing has been through michigan winters. The fenderwells are all rusted off already, the car is not exactly what I would call "sexy" condition. lol. That said i will not sawzall out structural sections, I will only remove sections of the floor that will not significantly hurt structural integrity.

I love ghetto powah

I really wanna see if that pull start works, hahahaha.

You guys should see my turbo Firefly (Chev Sprint, Suzuki SA310, etc). It's stripped down to just the drivers seat and boosting up to 20psi, muahahaha.

I've had a few problems since then, but it'll be back, lol.

I should get some Spoon Sports stickers too, and Mugen. Maybe something promoting a J-body as well

And the paint scheme has to be yellow body, with the red stripes and body side graphics and everything

You really dont understand the concept of a unitized framed car do you. Every facet of the floor is there for rigidity of the car... If its rusted all to hell then its already chemically lightened.

Your a trip man, funny as hell. Id almost think you weren't serious to do something like this

Where the hell is the dragstrip that lets you run a car with no floorboards?

yeah and soemthing esle that always bothered me was, someone saying yeah my car runs 13's , and im like whta was your time, and they say something like 13.97, to me 13.97 is closer to the 14's than it is 13's. For me to say my car is in the 11's It have to be closer to 11.4 or less for me to say that, otherwise I just quote the time..

end of rant

What I REALLY wanna know is how you're going to rid the thing of 1100 pounds.. if you said you wanted to ditch 500 pounds, yea.. that could happen.. but there's no way in hell you're gonna dump half a ton without turning the car into silly putty...

I got a good idea, you wont need those brake calipers, thats another 100 pounds or so. since you wont have any floorboards, you could probally use your feet to stop. Well um maybe not

Dude, I think you guys should lay off him just a bit. I mean hes only doin it for fun, to see what he can do. All it seems some of you are out to do is discourage him. Personally, I think its crazy enough to work. Hypothetically it should, unless of course the lightened unibody twists on the first 4500RPM launch and rolls him up like . Or it may work, and it will indeed be very quick. But does he really have bragging rights when he literally sawed the weight off his car? Of course not, so hopefully thats not what hes goin for. But if he already went this far, he really should go completly overboard with it.

thing is, with no floor his car could literally fold in half, folding his body with it. I don't think this is something that should be encouraged.

Your car will fall apart at Lapeer if you cut out all that metal. That drag strip is like a freakin country road....

By my calculations, if the car weighs 1500lbs + my 180lbs
You know how much the car weighs in with all the normal weight reductions don't ya? (a/c & a/c system removed, spare wheel, jack, etc) Gets you down to about 2350lbs. I've checked with two weigh-stations with these reductions and found that number to be accurate. Now for the people who go all out and remove the dash/passenger seat, the interior, etc, I've heard more like 2000lbs-all that stuff doesn't weight that much.

I have a hard time believing you can remove SO much weight to get it to 1500lbs. Hell people have trouble getting it to 2000lbs as I said. Cutting holes in the metal is not a good option, anyone and everyone will agree unless you put in new metal re-inforcement to keep it from flexing....which would add weight, so leaving it alone is probably best.

Heres my sugguestions for weight reduction after whats mentioned above, go to a 3 gallon fuel cell, get a lightweight flywheel, replace all the glass with plexiglass.

If you really want to drop the weight, and can afford it, get a tube frame made for her. Of course, this means that she will not be street legal any longer but if you are planning on racing her, tubbing her is one of the best ways to reduce the weight. We took an 1981 olds cutlass and managed to drop her to 2900 pounds and the engine is way bigger then the rex's!

R U going to leave a hole in the hood- for the pull cord to go through. I would love to see that- you walk up tp your car i the Wal Mart parking lot, then proceed to pull start it.- don't forget to add the two stroke oil first! But don't kill it in traffic!
