MSD questions

I read on Mazdaspeed write up that you need 3 coils to make stuff work, but i call MSD and talked to a tech who knew his **** and he said i only need one coil. Anyone care to explain? By the way, i ain't bagging on anyone i just want to knew what i need to upgrade to MSD. Thanks

A box, and some coils. Dont even have to be MSD coils. You need at least 3 coils for direct fire though (I think?). One trailing, and two leading .

On a normal distributor ignition system, he would be correct.
