msd questions

Looking to upgrade my ignition and am thinking about going the msd route. If I go with the msd 6a box, can I use these coils:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/msd-8202

Is the top connector on this the same as what's on our distributor? In other words, if I go with this coil, can I just use my existing plug wires by moving them from the distributor to the coils? Also, what's the best way to make the connection from the msd ignition box to the distributor without destroying a j109?

I run ACCEL Super Stock coils and they are similar, I'm also running stock wires and ignitors without issue. Previous owner of my engine ran those coils with magnacore 10mm wires for 30k. You should be fine

The only issue with oil filled coils like these is whether they can be mounted on their side and
not leak or overheat. I think these are ok but you might want to check it out.

Ive run standard accel oil filled coils on their side for 15k+ miles including several 6-8 hour drives, and had absolutely no problem.

OK, now after doing some more research, I'm thinking I may be headed in the wrong direction here... I want a simple upgrade to my stock ignition/coils. I was planning on following this guide: Mazspeed's First Generation Rx-7 Club Page but now after searching, it looks like that may be outdated/not the way to go. I have an 85 12a stock motor, Nikki with modded secondaries, upgraded exhaust/intake. Any advice if I'm looking towards the right ignition upgrade or should I look at a different option?

I used a 6a as well. I went to the salvage yard and got the leading coil for a 2nd generation RX-7 which has two high tension outputs that fit the stock wires and fire at the same time. I just hooked the MSD up to my ignitor using the enclosed diagram. Since the coil had two outputs, I just put the plug wires on them and left the leading connectors on the dist cap open.

I just passed smog but I had to put the two plug wires back on the dist and run a coil wire to satisfy the smog guy and it took all of a minute to do.

I only put the MSD on the leading coil. Look up DLFDIS on this website on how eliminate the need to use the dist for the leading plugs (other than the ignitor pulse).

Anything over there is way outdated. And when you search here, be sure to include the first "I" in DLIDFIS, otherwise the results are gonna be less than ideal. It's only seven letters, like an old phone number before they started requiring the area code every time.
